The Arts & Crafts Cooperative Inc. (ACCI Gallery) began in 1957 making it the oldest Arts & Crafts Cooperative west of the Mississippi. ACCI represents a wide range of talented California artists & craftspeople. We work to cultivate strong community participation through the Arts. Our patrons have come to look upon ACCI Gallery as a place to find exquisite, handcrafted work of the highest quality for gifts as well as developing a collection of fine California art. We are located in North Berkeley in the heart of the Gourmet Ghetto on Shattuck Ave close to the Downtown Berkeley Bart station.
We are looking for a part-time sales assistant for our gallery. Candidate must first have an extensive background in a retail environment as well as knowledge of fine arts and fine crafts. We expect our sales staff to interact with our customers, educating them about the work in the gallery, the artists, and the history of the organization. The candidate must be comfortable offering assistance to our clients, showing jewelry, working with our point of sale inventory system, and handling the register. Multi-tasking is essential while making certain that our customers come first.
Sales staff is also responsible for merchandising, creating visually appealing displays while keeping the contemporary aesthetic of the gallery. Staff may be asked to assist the director in the installation of our exhibitions as well. You must be comfortable with the occasional use of ladders and small power tools.
This is a fun, creative environment. We experience strong sales on a regular basis and are extremely busy during the holidays and special sales.

Sales Staff Reports to the Gallery Director and Assistant to the Director
Hourly pay rate range: $10-$14 per hour
Part-time, 12-15 hours/week. Hours: Sunday 12-5, Monday 11-6pm.
Wage increase after 3-month probationary period. Increase on an annual basis afterwards reflective of performance evaluation.
Areas of Responsibility:
-Sales performance.
-Patron relations.
-Merchandising and display implementation.
-Member relations.
-Support for other programs, projects, and exhibitions as assigned.
-Housekeeping and upkeep of the Gallery
The ideal applicant must have the following qualifications:
- Strong sales/retail experience.
- An engaging and dynamic personality. We expect our staff to interact with our customers, educating them about our artists and our history.
- Visual merchandising experience.
- Artistic background and an incredible eye for color and design.
- Computer skills. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, POSIM or similar point of sale inventory software.
- Excellent multi-tasking skills.
- Exceptional communication skills.
Some of the duties and responsibilities include:
-Responsible for sales and customer service in store.
-Responsible for opening and closing cash drawer daily.
-Sales, exchanges, gift certificates, credit, etc.
-Check in inventory upon arrival & withdrawal with artists
-Upkeep of artist card file at front desk.
-Upkeep of special order book kept at front desk, organize and follow up on special orders for artists
-Re-merchandise store fixtures when needed
-Call artists to bring in more work
-Create inventory barcodes with POSIM Inventory software
-Dust and sweep store area when dirty, clean glass on door and countertops.
-Daily restocking of gift boxes/bags/etc.
-Answer phone for the director and maintain communication with artists in the cooperative.
