Description Meet Bo.

Bo is an approximately 1.5 year old brindle australian shepherd mix. He weighs about 45 lbs. He is a very active dog and extremely loving. Bo is wonderful with adults, children, strangers, dogs, and cats.

Bo was found as a stray, protecting and helping to feed another stray, a small white puppy. He was a surrogate mother to the puppy, though he was not much more than a puppy himself. Bo would go around and beg for food, which he would then bring back for the puppy. Sadly, most of the people he would beg for food from kicked and otherwise abused him. The volunteers that found them tried to leave food and water out for them but those would always get knocked over by passersby. By the time the volunteers had managed to find a place they could take the 2 strays to, Bo had been so starved and beaten that he could no longer move. There was gum in his hair and an open stab wound. Despite such a traumatic experience, Bo is a very exuberant, sunny-natured fellow for whom the glass is always half-full. The puppy has been adopted so now Bo is looking for his forever home.

Bo is a very energetic and active boy. He revels in being able to run off-leash somewhere and loves playing with other dogs. Because he is so enthusiastic, it might be best if he is placed in a home without very small children (ie. babies and small toddlers) as he may knock them over in his eagerness. Yet he loves children. At his last foster home, he romped with 3 children ages 6-16 and slept with his face right up against the daughter's cheek the first night. He loves curling up beside your legs while you sleep.

Bo craves affection. He has had so little of it in his life that he will give you back as much love and attention you bestow upon him, double the amount! He likes knowing where his people are and tends to check to make sure everybody is ok. He will develop an intense bond with his human and will be a most devoted and loyal companion.

Having lived most of his life outside, Bo is not yet completely housetrained, but he knows how to use a doggy door to do his business outside. He does tend to pull on his leash, but he is eager to please so would be very trainable.

Because he is still so young and energetic, Bo needs someone who is willing to walk him and take him out to play on a regular basis. We do not consider leaving him alone in a backyard all day proper excerise. Bo needs to be an indoor dog, where he can be part of the family. It would be ideal if he could undergo training because as intelligent a dog as he is and as willing to please, he would thrive on this type of mental stimulation. Most of all, Bo needs to be in an environment where he can be loved, protected, and treated with the kindness he deserves.

Bo is under the care of GEPDA (Group Education to Protect and Defend Animals), a non-profit organization. He is neutered, heartworm tested, and current on shots. There is a $200 adoption fee which helps to cover a portion of his transport & medical expenses**. If you are interested in adopting Bo, please email us for an adoption application. Once we receive the completed application, we can arrange for you to come and meet Bo in person. A brief interview and a homecheck will also be required as we are committed to finding the best home possible for this extremely loving dog. A foster home is also urgently needed for Bo. We will transport him to anywhere in the Bay Area. Please also feel free to call us at (408) 528-5925 or (408) 265-8424 after 11 AM.

Bo has spent most of his life caring for somebody else--now it's his turn. If you're looking for a sunny-natured dog that is sure to bring life, laughter, and happiness into your home, Bo is it. He's a boy that always has a smile on his face and he's waiting to put a smile on yours.

**All GEPDA animals incur basic fees to get them ready for adoption, which include but are not limited to:
-- $100-$150 transportation costs, depending on size
-- $15 airport transportation paperwork fee
-- $50+ spay/neuter
-- $50+ vet checkup and evaluation (this is for a basic exam, add'l charges incurred for those found injured or sick)
-- $25+ vaccinations
-- $25 deworming/heartworm test
-- $20 flea protection
-- $50-$100 kennel lease, depending on size
GEPDA is an IRS-approved non-profit organization. We ask for a $200 adoption fee for our pets to help us recoup a portion of these costs (the rest is paid out-of-pocket by our volunteers), but what these dogs give back in their boundless capacity to love is priceless.
