Description I’m your technology-consultant for Macintosh computers, iPods and high-tech gear.
I make technology systems run smoothly and harmoniously.

MacSupport is on-site Macintosh help, private training and Apple technical support for people and small offices that use Macintosh computers or want to switch to one. I'll come to your home or office in San Francisco, Marin County and the Bay Area, and restore your sluggish Mac to its virgin speed, fix any problem and/or upgrade your system. I will create, optimize or upgrade your wired or wireless network to work smoothly and transparently. I’ll tutor you to use OS X effectively and show you the special features and programs that make the Mac a superior computer for your particular usage. I’ll also synchronize any of your other high-tech devices to work as a life-style supporting system.

New-users, techno-phobes, seniors, busy people (with more important things to do than study computers and manuals) and those who have just switched to Mac are welcome clients.

I can help take the frustration out and bring the pleasure back to using your computer.
I'm a certified member of the Apple Consultants Network.

IT'S TIME TO INSTALL TIGER!
Apple's latest Operating System, Tiger, is terrific. Released in April, it now has had 3 major adjustments and several security updates. It is solid, stable and mature and it’s time to move up. Apple calls it the world's most advanced Operating System and they're right.

Spotlight, Tiger's flagship search feature, is fabulous. I find that it has changed the way I organize my whole computer! It finds documents from their contents, titles, or comments and a search includes documents, folders, applications, emails, contacts, tunes and photos. I use it to open applications that aren't on my Dock, to get the phone number of someone in my Address Book and to open documents or emails. In the past I did my best to put documents into appropriate folders so I could find them again. Now I use much more general folders and just use Spotlight to find things.

Tiger has many other significant upgrades. For instance, in Preview, Apple's rapid opening and superior PDF viewer, you can now annotate, highlight with an oval and fill in the blanks of a PDF form. You can print out phone lists, address books and address envelopes from Address Book. Automator lets you do repetitive actions such as adding a comment to a group of photos or exporting a group of photos with a given size. Networking and remote printing have been upgraded in a way that makes them a snap to initiate.

Widgets are fun and useful. Over the past months the number of available Widgets has exploded; you'll find a number of them are worth downloading. I particularly like the 5-day weather widget, the San Francisco Fog Cam which lets me see, in a second, if and where the fog is, the UPS/FedEx/DHL Package Tracker, the Word of the Day vocabulary builder and the SunLitEarth widget.

I have successfully installed Tiger on 350 MHz G3 Candy iMacs, G4 Cubes, iBooks, Powerbooks and dual 2 GHz G5 PowerMacs. It works fast and smoothly on all. I also have successful experience repairing problematic Tiger installations where Firewire drives wouldn't mount, printers wouldn't print and applications wouldn't open.

Apple’s latest operating system (OSX, Tiger) is fabulous. Don’t let updating your system intimidate you. It’s much easier than it used to be. I can help make the transition and training painless and very rewarding!

SWITCH TO MAC
If you are thinking of switching to the elegant, easy-to-use and maintain, virus-immune Mac, I’m here to assist with the transition from buying support to transferring your emails and other files. Read an informative article by Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal to help with your decision:
http://ptech.wsj.com/archive/report-200511.html

Why Switch?
• Macs are easier, less frustrating and more pleasant to use.
• The organization and access to files and programs of all kinds is elegantly simple and transparent.
• New Macs with OSX and high speed internet connection (cable and DSL) are designed to fully integrate into your life in practical and useful ways.
• Virus designers have found it easy to exploit Microsoft security flaws. Macs, using the UNIX based OS X has been invulnerable. At this point, knock on wood, there have been no viruses for the Mac since 1998 - the introduction of OS X.)
• MACS ARE NOW FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS COMPUTERS.
• Files can be seamlessly transferred back and forth between Macs and Windows computers. The new Tiger OS has made this even more seamless.
• Macs network easily on Windows networks
• All common programs are written for both Windows and Macs
• There are a dozens of very sophisticated helper programs made specifically for Mac that sweeten your computer experience.
• Specialty programs that are made only for Windows, such as some financial programs or programs specially designed for your professional needs, can be run on a Mac using Virtual PC.
• The Mac hardware and software are designed and quality controlled by one organization. There is a difference.

I use Apple Remote Desktop which allows me to view and work on your computer remotely (with your permission), from my office. This is a great tool for both repair and for teaching.
