POSITION: Full-time Grant Writer
SUPERVISOR: Development Director
Youth Radio is an award-winning independent producer of youth media that has trained thousands of teenagers in broadcast journalism, production, engineering and media literacy since 1992. We are seeking a motivated, experienced grant writer to join our development team. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator with a hands-on, solution-oriented approach. The candidate will possess superb attention to detail and be adept at working efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Three years experience with annual fund campaigns or independent grant writing required. A passion for youth development and/or media is desirable.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Write proposals and letters of inquiry to foundations, corporations, and government agencies
• Revise/edit grant reports using information obtained from the Director and program staff
• Research, identify, and evaluate possibilities for new and increased funding using online resources and other methods
• Represent Youth Radio at community fundraising and other events as required
• Create marketing materials relevant to the fundraising activities
• Participate in relevant workshops and meetings
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Three years of successful grant writing experience required
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal government funding opportunities in the areas of youth development and media a plus
• Exceptional written communications skills
• Budget writing and data analysis experience preferred
• Good collaboration skills and the initiative and ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Ability to work with people of diverse social backgrounds and professional rank
• Computer literate, preferably with PC systems and Microsoft Office applications
• Understanding of and concern for the issues of youth development and media a plus
• BA degree or equivalent experience
