You: In a wheelchair Me: In a Prius - 28 (berkeley)

Title You: In a wheelchair Me: In a Prius - 28 (berkeley)
Category Cars & Trucks, Etc. : Foreign : Toyota
Created 03/15/06
Description You: Crossing Allston on the west side of Shattuck, headed south. In a wheelchair. Wearing a hat.
Me: In the white Toyota Prius waiting for you to wheel across the street and get out of my way so I could finish motoring home in an environmentally friendly way.

Maybe you had done a bit of shopping at Half Price Books, or maybe you had a Big Mac at McDonald's (and being laden down by all that cholesterol would explain the...shall we say leisurely...pace you kept while traversing the intersection). I don't know, but I had some cage-free organic eggs to get back into the refrigerator.

But, there you were. Pushing your wheels across the street, not even caring that you were holding up a whole bunch of cars, each probably with a dozen cage-free organic eggs to go in the fridge. That's when I realized...you would have no reason to know. Why not you ask? Because, even though you deserved to get the finger, I couldn't give it to you. After all, who flips the bird to a guy in a wheelchair? That's just messed up. If you had been on your two feet, I'd have been on the horn, with my finger out the window showing you how I feel. But, because you got wheels, no finger.

Now, the finger has its use in our society. You cut someone off driving, or you dally in the middle of the street, you get the finger and you know what it means. But, if you're in a wheelchair, you never get that treatment. "Oh give him a break, he's in a wheelchair" is all you ever hear.

But, everyone deserves the finger now and then. Even guys in wheelchairs. Now, I have found my mission in life: Giving the finger to the finger deprived. I might start with guys in wheelchairs...I'm sure they've all done something finger-worthy, so I'll give it to them in honor of all the people who withheld their finger. Maybe after that it will be the orphanages, and then churches (not the Catholics...those guys must get the finger enough).

But for now...guy wheeling across Allston, I give you the finger.
