Description

Parenting can be hard, especially when you do not have the support you need! Many families in our community are so isolated and stressed that their children are at risk for abuse or neglect.

You can help by becoming a hotline counselor.

FamilyPaths, formerly Parental Stress Service, is a non-profit agency that has provided services to strengthen families and prevent child abuse for the past 30 years. All FamilyPaths’ programs aim to provide support, build self-esteem, improve mental health, and teach useful skills that help family members take responsibility for their actions and treat others respectfully.

We offer a 24-hour parental support hotline that has provided an invaluable service to families in Alameda County for 30 years. Our hotline has been sustained through the generous, skilled work of volunteer counselors, supported by our staff of experienced clinicians.

We are actively recruiting volunteers for our upcoming 30-hour training session. We do not ask that prospective volunteers have any previous hotline or parenting experience. Our comprehensive training will prepare you to confidently answer the line. After successfully completing the training, we ask for a commitment from volunteers to work one 4- hour shift a week.

The dates and times for our next training are on two consecutive weekends:

Friday, April 21, 5:30pm-9pm Friday, April 28, 5:30-9pm
Saturday, April 22, 9am-3:30pm Saturday, April 29, 9am-3:30pm
Sunday, April 23, 10am-3:30pm Sunday, April 30, 10am-3:30pm

Please take a look at your calendar and consider joining us in April. This is an excellent opportunity to really make a difference in the lives of children and families, while gaining valuable experience and supervision from experienced staff. If you are interested in joining our next training session and would like to receive an application and schedule an interview, please contact Maryann Wagner, Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator, at (510) 893-9230 x243or by email at mwagner@familypaths.org.
