WRITERS ' TEMPLE (corte madera)

Title WRITERS ' TEMPLE (corte madera)
Category Workshops
Created 03/15/06
Description THE WRITERSTEMPLE

Small groups (NO MORE THAN 4 in a circle) of serious writers.

WE meet once a week in Marin for 3 to 4 hours with an intense focus on finishing our work; the novel, the short story, the autobiography, the book of poetry, the screenplay, the stage play, the travel journal, etc.

$20.00 for a 3 to 4 hour session covers rent and refreshments.

THERE IS A SCREENING PROCESS. PLEASE BE PREPARED TO SUBMIT A SAMPLE OF YOUR WORK.

Presently professionals and semi-professionals comprise the groups but talented and serious non-professionals are welcome.

PLEASE PHONE (415) 927-7830 FOR AN INTERVIEW AND BE PREPARED TO SUBMIT A WRITING SAMPLE.

AFTERWORD: There is a waiting list to join the poetry and novel workshops. Please remember that there are only 4 people to a group. This minimum insures that each writer is given adequate attention. Screening is mandatory and if you are accepted you will be asked to reserve your place with a $20 deposit.

Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions. Sorry, we are too busy writing to respond individually.

QUESTION: Can I do a work exchange instead of pay the $20 to cover cost? ANSWER: Yes. No serious, (what we consider talented) author is turned away. Financial difficulties are worked out. However stick- to- it- tive-ness is mandatory. Please don’t apply if you are not serious about completing your work.

QUESTION: Do you have writing classes for children?
ANSWER: Only private tutoring in the child’s home. $20.00 an hour.
There is a waiting list.

QUESTION: Do you have private classes for adults and adolescents?
ANSWER: Yes. $20.00 an hour OR work exchange.

QUESTION: Are there evening and weekend workshops?
ANSWER: Yes.

It’s a busy time now. We ask for your patience with our response.

This is how the waiting list works: There are only so many circles in each writing category. When a space becomes available the first person on the list that has been waiting for an opening is contacted. If they have moved away or is if they are engaged with other activity and can’t make a commitment to The Writers’ Temple, the next person on the list is contacted and so on.

Please understand that although this ad is on going, it does not mean that there is an immediate opening for a new writer to join a circle. Often there is a six-week to a six-month or longer waiting period. We keep talented potential new members on a waiting list so that they can step in when there is an opening and so that The Writers Temple may continue to function the way it was designed to function for the benefit of its existing members.
