The website of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) is being moved onto a new technology platform, and with the relaunch -- which will take place on March 13, 2006 (yes, this is an ambitious project!) -- we would like to clean out old content and add a lot of new content. Most of the current content will come over - you can see it and learn more about us at www.glma.org. GLMA is the country's leading organization focused on LGBT health. We celebrate our 25th anniversary this year.
We are looking for a VERY good writer -- a style characterized by a strong, active voice, economy of words, flawless grammatical control and spelling, very smart, fresh, non-stuffy tone -- to mine newsletters for material that can be repurposed, to get other people to write new content, to edit that material, and to write new content, in part by interviewing people on the phone. The person must understand the unique logic of websites. Experience with information architecting is a plus.
We can't pay premium prices -- hey, we're a nonprofit -- but we want the compensation to be fair.
We will be working with a technical consultant who will advise on information architecture and port content into the new content management system (CMS, a product called CitySoft), a design firm that will give us a few design options, and support staff who will clean up/normalize existing data and documents for importing into the site. We are also hoping to have a board committee to provide content and advise on design. Finally, we may have a volunteer who can assist with some of the editing management functions (e.g., making assignments, collecting materials, etc.).
It's fine to work from home, but we'll need at least a couple of in-person meetings in our Hayes Valley office. All work will be done on PCs using Microsoft Word.
To apply, send an email to jobs@glma.org. Put "Website Writer/Editor" in the subject line. Please attach a writing sample, something that is 100% your work (no editing by other people). People will be contacted the week of 2/28.
Thanks for your interest.
