KIDPOWER is seeking a Workshop Coordinator for our Santa Cruz Central Office.

We are looking for a special individual to join our small and extremely productive office. This job is NOT hands-on with students teaching our workshops.

KIDPOWER TEENPOWER FULLPOWER International (shortened to KIDPOWER) is a private nonprofit organization started in 1989. KIDPOWER’s mission is to help people of all ages, abilities, and walks of life learn how to stay safe, act wisely, and believe in themselves. Our goal is to ensure that our potentially life-changing self-esteem and violence, abuse and abduction prevention skill building services become widely and equitably available to as many people as possible. We bring self-protection and self-confidence skills to people of all ages and abilities. These skills help prevent most molestation, assault, abduction and bullying. JOB DESCRIPTION

We have a small office where we coordinate the workshops and instructors for the Bay Area. We are the international central office for KIDPOWER and we support the whole international organization. We are also actively fundraising and working on grant development and implementation. The office is often quite busy and we have a lot of part-time employees and university work-study students. No day is the same but we strive to have fun, help as many people as possible and work hard.

Sample job duties include:
--Respond to inquiries about setting up workshops
--Work directly with agencies, schools and groups of families to set up personal safety workshops that fit their needs
--Work directly with KIDPOWER instructors to schedule them for workshops and provide them with logistical support
--Do outreach to organizations in California to provide information about our services
--Track services provided for grant sources


NECESSARY CHARACTERISTICS
--Extremely reliable and flexible

--Ability to do careful and accurate work
--Ability to proactively problem solve
--Ability to take initiative
--Ability to work both cooperatively and independently
--Organized self-starter
--Willing to learn/grow with KIDPOWER
--Ability to acknowledge and learn from mistakes
--Excellent writing skills
--Ability to multi-task and work in an environment with distractions (such as the phone ringing often or other people talking on the phone).
--Willing to observe children’s workshop and attend adult workshop on own time at no cost.

NECESSARY JOB EXPERIENCE
--Experience working in an office environment
--Experience using Apple computers
--Experience using the following programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Filemaker (or a similar database system)

PREFERED CHARACTERISTICS AND EXPERIENCE
--Experience working in a non-profit environment
--Bilingual (English/Spanish)
--Experience in grant development and implementation
--Experience running programs or coordinating classes


This is a full-time, 40 hour a week position. After three months we do provide Health Insurance and Benefits for full-time employees. We offer vacation time after three months. We also have opportunities for advancement in the organization.

Please note: we will pay $10 an hour for the first three weeks for beginning training. Training time will be at 20-25 hours a week for three weeks. After the first three weeks, the Workshop Coordinator will be paid between $13 and $15 an hour based on experience.

-Someone who wants the same routine every day .
-Someone who will be very upset by occasionally hearing about the sad reasons why we do the work we do (in general the office is a very happy place, but the reasons why we teach personal safety skills are often sad).
