I gotta say, listening to Giants fans defend their hero on KNBR all day makes for great entertainment. It's almost comical. My favorite though was the guy who asked the question, "Why is it just Bonds? Why doesn't MLB target guys like McGwire and Sosa? Why doesn't MLB kick those guys out?"
When are you people gonna pull your heads out of your asses? Look, I know Giants fans aren't too bright to begin with, but seriously, listen to yourselves!
Why is the media targeting Barry Bonds? Well gee Giants fan, I dont know, maybe it has something to do with Bonds being linked to steroids on the heals of him breaking the most prized record in all of baseball. Maybe it has something to do with the FACT that baseball has ALWAYS been followed and cherished by historians who view it more as a religion than a sport. Afterall, this is the same sport that banned the greatest hitter of all time statistically, for a crime that he committed as a manager. Not as a player, but a manager! Are you kidding me? Oh, but this is a witch hunt right?
And to that point, if you honestly believe that what Pete Rose did hurt the integrity of baseball more so than guys like Bonds, Canseco, and McGwire? YOU ARE NOT ONLY AN IDIOT BUT YOU ARE ON CRACK AS WELL!
As I listen to Giants fans defend this guy, I cant help but notice that if we use the logic these fans present, not only should we leave Bonds alone, we should also open the doors at San Quentin and let about 75% of the prisoners walk free. Seriously. Afterall, none of us saw Bonds use steroids just as none of us saw these killers commit their crimes. The sad thing is, if these very same fans ever had the chance to meet Barry Bonds in person, if they were ever a fly on the wall and got to witness his utter disrespect for the public, most of them would stop defending him. He's a straight up punk. His "act" is one that you cant possibly defend. He's literally a piece of garbage. Filth. Yet because he can hit a baseball, Barry Bonds is also a victim.
Nevermind that the new book about Barry Bonds' steroid use comes from over 200 sources!! Yes, Giants fans, 200 SOURCES!! Barry plays for the Giants and therefore he's the victim. Nevermind that if Barry Bonds was wearing Dodger blue, SF Giants fans would crucify him to no end. Can you imagine the steroid using, 2006 version of Barry Bonds wearing a Dodger uniform and coming to play at Candlestick Park? Lord may have mercy on his soul but Giants fans wouldn't. Of course, most of todays Giants fans never attended the 'Stick on a cold Friday night against the Dodgers. If they did, they would have no defense for the point I just made. Nevermind all that, Barry is the victim here.
I have a better idea. This year, I say the Giants agree to let their public address announcer introduce Barry Bonds as "The Victim" before every single at bat.
"Now batting....number 25....The Victim, Barrrry Bondsss!!"
In fact, the next time I see Bonds, I will seek an autograph but only if he signs my ball as "The victim, Barry Bonds." I'll cherish that one forever.
In closing, I'd like to give everyone an example of the athletes who truly suffer from Bonds' scandalous achievements. Everyone wants to talk about Hank Aaron. Forget Hank Aaron for a second. To be honest, I dont believe Bonds will pass Aaron. Karma has a funny way of punishing those who are dishonest. I'd like to talk about Rickey Henderson. In my opinion, the greatest player who ever stepped foot in the bay area.
(Yeah, you remember Rickey, Giants fan. He was the guy batting leadoff for the A's back in '89 when Oakland wiped its ass with the San Francisco in a World Series sweep. A beat down so severe that the earth shook.)
Henderson, aside from wearing 2 WS championship rings , is the ALL TIME leader in stolen bases, runs, leadoff homeruns, and walks. Well, he was the ALL TIME leader is walks before Bonds passed him 2 years ago. A shame considering Rickey Henderson never had the priveledge of the intentional walk. No, not because Henderson didn't earn the respect of pitchers, it had more to do with the fact that if you walked Henderson, he'd rip your heart out and feed it to you. Walking Rickey Henderson was like purposely throwing the game. Henderson was a guy that would draw a walk, and 4 pitches later he'd be standing on 3rd base. You see, todays baseball fans dont value the stolen base anymore. Who could blame them? I wouldn't give my base runner the green light either considering the guy on deck is on steroids and capable of going opposite field, upper tank.
So while a steroid using Bonds is hitting 73 homeruns at 38 years of age, major league managers are countering with the mentality of, "Screw it, walk him." In doing this, Rickey Henderson watches his record fall. Spin it whatever way you want, as a baseball fan, IT'S WRONG.
Oh, and another thing, shame on the Giants organization for standing behind this arrogant asshole, Barry Bonds, while letting a player like JT Snow get away. Thats a slap in the face. How do you root for this team? Seriously. This is a team that is obviously trying to make as much money off Bonds as they can while he chases the record, yet they turn around and give their fans NOTHING in return other than Steve Finley. I know, I know, the money isn't there, right Mr. Safeway?
Safeway, oh the irony.
Not so safe anymore, are ya Petey?
