Hi there,
I'm a recent transplant from Southern California up to the Bay Area (before California, I lived in four other time zones). I've been up here for about four months working for a technology company (though my eventual goal is to teach French, that won’t be for a while). In that time, even though I pine for LA big freeways, Santa Monica's beaches, and Pasadena's Mediterranean-inspired architecture, I've become pretty well situated here in Silicon Valley. I'm happy in my job, have found ways to fill my free time, places to hike, and loads of good restaurants. My personality is sometimes trivia machine, sometimes purposeful philosopher, sometimes humanitarian, and sometimes quirky intellectual politico (Tucker Carlson already has my dream job, but I already own the bowtie so I can take over when he retires). My friends consist off all of the above, with an especially heavy concentration of lawyers for some reason. For those TV viewers out there: I identify with Radar O’Reilly’s stature, Malcolm in the Middle’s braininess, and Frasier Crane’s career confidence.
I spend my free time watching old movies (I’ve got a home theatre), doing roadtrips back to LA, and otherwise exploring the world nearby and further away. Recent trips were Japan, Hawaii, Singapore and Hong Kong. Last week I did a twelve mile hike near Pacifica. I’ve got diverse tastes in music – case in point: my two favorite albums are the soundtrack to Pulp Fiction and Pavarotti’s rendition of Pagliacci. While I don’t spend too much time in the kitchen, when I do the result is pretty good. Baking bread and hosting lobster nights for friends is are favored activities. I’m not too much into the party scene. You’re far more likely to find me at a coffeeshop reading the The Economist than stumbling around a bar during the evenings.
Early on, I’m looking for a woman in her twenties to have a few dinners with or maybe just someone with whom to share my newspaper with at Borrone’s with the idea of developing a relationship. She understands that great relationships aren’t worthh the investment. For things to succeed longer-term, I’m looking for a woman who’s somehow special. I’m afraid I can’t define that much more. It could be that she works for a non-profit that serves some great cause or competed in the last gubernatorial election. For me, there’s nothing sexier than a woman with a unique story or dream.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you – maybe a good conversation starter is a follow on to the first part of this: Which TV or book characters do you identify with?
