Type accurately and quickly. |

Be familiar with MS Access and Excel on a Window’s platform. |

Be able to multitask and answer a high volume of phone calls. |

Completed at least one college course in biology or science. An interest in Public Health and Biology is preferred. |

Possess excellent communication skills to convey disease ecology and education information. |

| Position description: |
| o |
Answer the California West Nile virus hotline (1-800-WNV-BIRD), which received over 100,000 calls and online reports in 2005. |
| o |
Determine from the conversation the bird species, testability of dead bird, location, and other pertinent information, and enter the information into a database. |
| o |
Inform the public about West Nile virus by answering technical questions. |
| o |
Work with local agencies and testing laboratories throughout California to arrange for the collection, shipping, and testing of birds. |
| o |
Receive direction and guidance from the biologists of the Dead Bird Surveillance Program. |
| o |
Work with the State Health Viral and Rickettsial Disease Lab in Richmond and the UC Davis Arbovirus Research Unit. |
| Position Information: |

Shifts: Part-time / Full-time positions (afternoon shifts and Tuesday / Thursday are preferred but other shifts are available). Part-time positions could change to full time over the summer months or upon graduation. |

Compensation: $10 per hour, with appropriate increases after completion of training. |
| o |
Location: State Health Laboratory Building at 850 Marina Bay Parkway, Richmond, Ca. |
| o |
