My approach to documenting weddings has been cultivated from years of covering international news, business and politics. My forte is waiting for the right moments, and capturing genuine actions and reactions during the natural flow of the wedding day. From hours before the bride walks down the aisle to the guests saying good-bye at night, my images depict the emotion of your day in an honest manner. My goal is to catch fleeting moments which are often lost when a couple is caught up in the energy of the day.
My personal style of photography is not driven by a formula. My work is not defined by a term or a definition. Many photographers label themselves as "traditional" or "photojournalism." While I have spent my career as a photojournalist and I draw on my photojournalism background while documenting a wedding, I am not bound by the rules of journalism while shooting a wedding. I am free to work unobtrusively as well as interact with the bride and groom.
In addition to my preference for waiting for the right moment during wedding preparation, the ceremony and the reception, I also like to create fun quick portraits of the bride and groom, much like I do with politicians and corporate executives for magazines. I do not produce traditional formal photos, but I play with the moment to create fun images, before returning to the subtle manner in which I go about documenting the unscripted moments of your wedding.
Weddings are the start of a couples' personal history, a history which will be passed down to the next generation. My style of documenting personal history may not be the right approach for some couples, but for those who chose a different path there are wonderful images to be created and treasured.
My ability to capture wonderfully personal moments have even landed some of my wedding images in Life Magazine's Year in Pictures, Time Magazine's Year in Pictures and Life Magazine's Annual Photo Album.
