Web Applications Developer, Consumer Properties Team
LookSmart, an online media and technology company specializing in vertical search, is currently seeking a Web Applications Developer based in our San Francisco office.
Responsibilities:
· Join a team of web developers implementing web applications and partner XML/RSS feeds in a PHP framework
· Ensure best customer experience by creating and overseeing the creation of best of breed PHP, XML, AJAX and DHTML/JavaScript technologies
· Apply your creativity in a collaborative team environment to solve challenges, recommend implementation strategies and improve application performance
· Define and apply business rules and constraints to an array of databases and database-related technologies
· Develop software to display and store text, images and other dynamically-generated content as part of a leading-edge search infrastructure
· Plan, architect and implement new page structures and tagging approaches
· Partner with Web Development, Design, Copy, and Constrained Search teams to ensure that specifications are met functionally and graphically
· Contribute to the overall technical direction and development of our consumer web properties as a technical staff member
Requirements:
· 5 years’ of experience developing web applications, preferably in high-transactional/info industries
· At least 3 years’ of PHP development experience, preferably for high-transactional/info, and/or consumer-oriented websites
· Strong HTML and CSS skills
· A proven desire to learn and contribute to the successful completion of team goals and projects
· A proven ability to learn fast
· A track record of applying skills and understanding from one programming language to another and quickly digesting new technologies
· Organized and detail oriented.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Strong experience working in a fast-paced, team-based production environment
Preferred Experience:
· Some Perl and Java experience desired
· Experience with mySQL and Lucene preferable
