SELF, Concord, CA 1990 – Present
Consultant

Providing consulting services in conjunction with or as my full time employment in operations, software & hardware engineering, management, R&D, database development, accounting, business process, and telecommunications. Supplied services including project management, product management, system design and implementation, financial analysis, business analysis, application development, and customer/user support and training. Services have been provided to or on behalf of clients such as Atlanta Police Department, US Department of Energy, Harris Corporation, AFC, University of Georgia, Peachtree Accounting, Texaco, Shaw Industries, HumanConcepts, and the Belize Telephone Company.
* Designed, developed, implemented and provided training of database systems providing property and evidence management, nuclear site issues management, inventory control, telephony calling card operations, and adjuncts to commercial accounting systems.
* Taught accounting principles and accounting software operation, database design and implementation, SQL as well as many desktop applications including the MS Office application suite in the classroom setting as well and on-site; able to translate complex technical and financial concepts for diverse audiences.
* Provided customer/user support services for accounting, productivity and specialized software systems.
* Provided product management consulting services primarily in the prepaid and calling card arena.

AMI TELECOMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION, Reno, NV 10/01 – 10/03
Vice President of Operations

AMI was a niche supplier of telecommunications services to the hospitality industry. Originally recruited as programming manager but ultimately hired as VP of Operations. This was a turn-around effort for a company in very serious financial trouble. Responsible for software development team, call center, physical plant operations, field engineering team, billing and credit operations, process development and improve throughout the organization. Customer liaison for technical issues. Responsible for vendor selection and negotiations. Managed staff of 60 technical, financial, call center, and administrative employees.
* Redesigned several billing and credit systems streamlining them to eliminate redundancy and increase efficiency reducing costs-per-transaction by 30%.
* Made staff adjustments adjusting headcount to more closing match true needs.
* Developed and managed a 7 figure budget including counseling on correction of accounting irregularities.
* Designed or modified processes to bring efficiency to the overall operations under my control.
* Outsourced processes reducing costs by over half and increasing productivity many fold.
* Established policies for call center operation including establishing empowerment levels reducing call time and increasing customer satisfaction.


TELTRUST CALLING CARD SERVICES, Atlanta, GA 08/98 – 08/00
Vice President of Operations

Teltrust was a major supplier of telecommunications services including operator services, directory assistance and calling card services. Had turnkey management responsibility for a team of 85 staff. Responsible for 24x7x365 NOC center, 50 seat call center, software development team, data network operations, physical plant operations, process development and implementation, telephony network operations and deployment. Was customer liaison for technical issues and system analysis for issues related to new sales as well as issue resolution pertaining to existing systems. Provided technical interface between accounting and technical business operations. Responsible for vendor selection and management. Seven figure budget responsibility.
* Architect of POS system allowing Point of Sale transactions to interact with database system through dialup, TCP/IP, and/or nailed-up connection instigated from POS terminals, computers systems, or the web.
* Developed and implemented migration plan to move databases (100+) from FoxPro to SQL Server 6.5. SQL architecture improved capacity, increasing available current records from 1 month to 3 years.
* Design a complete architecture change to the commercial call management product is use moving the record limit from 2M to 35M. Contracted with the manufacturer to have the new architecture implemented.
* Consolidate 50 network servers of dubious origins to two clustered primary servers with about 10 subordinate servers.
* Automated processes allowing billing system to feed transactions directly to the accounting system (MAS90) eliminating entry redundancy.
* Spearheaded the effort to eliminate applications developed for archaic OS’s (DOS) and in archaic languages; these applications were, themselves, consolidated where appropriate to provide more than a single task. This effort allowed for further system consolidation because of the new applications’ ability to run multitasked on modern equipment. This effort eliminated about 25 application servers.
* Reduce trouble tickets from hundreds per week to 2 or 3 per day.
* Redesigned and implemented remote validation system for prepaid calling cards to allow for 80,000 transactions per day with 100% uptime.
* Provided financial analysis of customer based to determine profitability on a per customer basis.
* Engineered a CRM application to better server the customer but also to localize issues within the data and processes allowing for correction without finger pointing.
* Restructured entire Senior and Executive management team creating a $250K annual savings.
* Served as customer liaison to customers such as Ameritech, Bell South, FlyingJ, Gtech, Illinois Lottery, Turner Broadcasting.

Harris Digital Telephone Systems was the telecommunications manufacturing division of a major defense contractor and private sector manufacturing company. Promoted through the ranks in various steps from contract software engineer to the final position of Principal Applications Engineer. Subject matter expert on the Harris enhanced services telecommunications product line. Provided product and project management for enhanced services platform. Provided bi-directional technical interpretation and system analysis between customer and organization.

Challenges in earlier roles at Harris included database design and development, call center tools design and development, engineering management, sales and technical support. Establishing best practices for productivity tools including Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Visual Studio, SQL Server as well as a vast array of additional technology applications specific to individual needs.

* Establish desktop application standards including the desktop suite to be used throughout the Enhanced Services sector.
* Establish QA standards and protocols for the lab environment used in system and version testing.
* Managed several projects in the 4M range bringing all in under budget and early.
* Managed a team of software and hardware engineers, technicians, and ancillary staff numbering about 35; at times higher depending on an individual effort.
* Managed a project involving the physical relocation of the entire engineering team and physical equipment across country to a new location in California.
* Responsible for hiring staff and contract personnel for the engineering group.
* Served as product matter expert providing sales support to the Harris customers in the US and across the globe. In this role I worked in many European, South and Central American, and Mid-eastern countries as well as Mexico and Canada. Customer base included customers such as Southwestern Bell, Bell South, New Jersey Bell, most Local Exchange Carriers and 81 countries.
* Managed development of several product revisions and point releases.
* Managed significant out-source resources involved in development and support of the product line.
* Served as liaison between the Customer Service group and the Product Engineering team and senior management.
