the fatal flaw in your argument that Car & Driver's 10 best list is based on advertising is the fact GM and VW -- the two largest car companies in the world, with the largest ad budgets - haven't won.

I owned a Subaru... great car. Didn't measure up to my BMW, but it was a great little car.
