Primary Job Responsibilities

As part of an elite team, the PayPal Technical Duty Officers are responsible for the 24/7 operation of the world’s largest and most successful eCommerce platform. This role is staffed 24/7 and by three rotating shifts. Exceptional job satisfaction and a flexible work schedule are some of the advantages of this position. The Technical Duty Officer is responsible for rapid impact assessment, technical diagnosis and restoration of service(s) by directing world-class teams of technicians in a complex technical environment. Rapid restoration of site issues is the primary focus of the TDO but other duties include evaluating current architectures and suggesting changes that increase stability and availability, continuous improvement of the crisis management process, oversight and flawless execution of maintenance activities as well as advising senior management for strategic and tactical decision making. The successful applicant must be able to:

• Give and receive direction across multiple levels of management and technical disciplines
• Make sound decisions in extremely short time frames under intense pressure in a complex technical environment
• Work Graveyard and Swing shifts as required to support a 24x7 staffing model -Work weekends and Holidays
• Travel to one (or both) of the Network Operation Centers
• Manage a frequently intense and sometimes stressful environment -Contribute in a fun, exciting, and diverse culture.

Job Requirements

• 4 year degree (BS/EE, BS/CE or equivalent)
• 8+ years Technical Work Experience
• World Class Troubleshooting and Problem Solving Skills
• Proven Ability to Lead Cross Functional Technical Teams
• Diverse Experience with Information Systems Design and Deployment
• Demonstrated Broad and Deep Technical Proficiency with several of the following core technologies:
• Networking
• Systems Administration (UNIX, LINUX and Windows)
• Client-Server (OLTP) Systems
• Database Applications
• Financial Systems
• High Volume email Delivery
• DOS and DDOS protection
• Internet Security Practice
• Load Balancing
• High Availability Products and Strategie
• Software Product Development Lifecycl
• Supervisor or Team Lead Experience in a 24x7 production environmen
• Ability to Multitask and Prioritize on-the-fl
• Crisis Management Experience in an Intense Environmen
• Effective Communication, with Excellent Verbal and Writing Skill
• Experience with both “Startup” and large company cultures a plus
