Technical Director for Animation for company in Mountain View, CA
The Multiverse Network, Inc. (www.multiverse.net), an MMOG infrastructure company, is using its technology platform to create a full-featured, high-profile MMORPG called "Kothuria: The World's Edge" (www.kothuria.com). This position interacts with both the game team AND the platform team. The position of Technical Director for Animation is open for immediate hire.
The Technical Art Director is reponsible for the asset pipeline, and resolving issues by working with the art director and client engineering team. Additionally, the TAD works to enhance and optimize the pipeline process. The TAD has in-depth knowledge of tools, and can use them directly when needed, or train others when appropriate. Multiverse is a small company and requires much hands-on work.
Responsibilities:
* manage/resolve technical issues regarding rigging, skinning, and animation
* optimize pipeline process and usage of tools
* assist programmers and designers in researching and developing features
* technically review 3D assets in fast-moving production pipeline
* help communicate issues between art and client engineering departments
* mentor artists in the development of their skills
Requirements:
* mastery of 3D Studio Max for rigging, skinning, and animations
* solid experience with Character Studio
* deep understanding of the technical issues of character rigging
* deep understanding of the rigging issues for non-humanoid assets (eg, quadrupeds, birds, etc)
* good understanding of the asset production pipeline and related technical issues
* good communication skills to resolve issues and educate others
* strong ability to create and meet deadlines
* must be local or able to self-relocate; no telecommute opportunity
Experience:
* 5+ years of professional experience working as a 3D rigger and/or animator in computer gaming
* art-related college degree (4 year degree preferred)
* a reel demonstrating rigging and character animation, including characters in motion
* degree in modeling/animation or work-experience equivalent
* experience with other tools (including Maya/MotionBuilder and Blender) is a plus
* traditional art skills is a plus
* experience writing shader code is a plus
* passion for games, experience with MMORPGs
