DEER HILL RANCH, a non-profit 501c3 educational organization is looking for an Outdoor Adventure Educator who loves children and animals and who is creative and outgoing to help teach our Farm Interaction Programs for children ages 4-9.
We serve children from all walks of life and with differing abilities. We are ideally looking for people who want to do this on occasion or on a very part-time basis as independent contractors. (We only need teachers when programs are scheduled.)
QUALIFICATIONS: Must love farm animals. Experience with horses a plus and is preferred. Must love children. Must have excellent listening skills. Must have a joyful, upbeat approach. Must love learning and researching. Must value compassion and kindness. Must not mind sitting in mud or manure holding a chicken in your lap or having a pig nuzzle you with his snout. Must be outgoing with the ability to hold the attention of a group of children and adults. Must love TEACHING and helping children overcome their fears. Must be a clear communicator who aspires to be non-judgemental and who ideally will have studied psychology and/or consciousness. Must be able to pick up on subtle clues if children need special help or encouragement. Must believe in Experiential Learning techniques and be familiar with group dynamics and processing and debriefing techniques and be comfortable with and knowledgable about giving and taking feedback and setting boundaries. Must be a self-starter who is a team player and really enjoys empowering children and helping them develop increased self-awareness and self-esteem. Must believe in Humane Education principles and must be able to be open and authentic and to communicate openly with your fellow staff members. Must believe in Environmental Education and Earth-Centered Spirituality and Adventure Education and Therapy techniques as well as the healing power of animals.
Salary $12 an hour. Programs for schools and youth agencies are usually 2 1/2 hours a day. Sometimes we need to staff two programs a day during our busy seasons. Our website is www.deerhillranch.org.

Start times would range from 8:30 am if it is a 9:00 am program to 9:00 am if it is a 9:30 am program. The programs last 2 hours 15 mins - 2 hours 30 mins and you would need to allow 5-10 minutes at the end for clean up.) You could teach a program in the morning and a program in the afternoon if one is scheduled or you could only teach in the mornings, if you like. Afternoon programs are usually scheduled for 12:30 - 2:45 pm.
Ideal candidates will have experience with differing learning styles, with inner city and "at risk" kids and will be First Aid and CPR certified. Also will be able to be fingerprinted for the Dept. of Justice database.
