It's Sunday and time for another Black Magic hootenanny!
Every other Sunday local SF musicians gather with musicians and music lovers from around the world at the Black Magic. And today is the day!
I promise everyone will feel at home at The Black Magic. If you never played for anyone but your cat, or used to play lead for Skid Row and want to get out and stretch the old chops, either way you will have a good time.
If you have played open mics before, you will notice the difference here right away.
1. You get to play a longer set if you want. How many times have you waited 2 hours to do 2 songs? Won't happen here. Arrive early ( 4 to 5 ), and it's possible to do a half hour set first time you come. Is that sweet or what?
2. You get to play to a cool crowd in a cool location. This is the spot man. Van Ness and Lombard! Tourists, young SF locals, diverse musicians. This is no dive bar in Modesto, this is part of the SF music scene. You will play to a realistic audience, not a bunch of musicians just biding their time until they get up. And talk about a good place to invite your friends for your first SF show. A Sunday featured act at the Magic is probably still one of the best "first show" opportunities left in the city.
3. No egos, no attitude. We are all about getting together and having a little musical fun. We have none of that overly serious crap that you find at most open mics. As well as hearing peoples songs, we all jam together, experiment, try different instruments, stir the pot. If you need to link up with other musicians, find places to play, just get into the SF music scene, I promise to do whatever I can to help you out. We want to build a SF "musical community" from the ground up. Not just feed our own fragile little egos.
So if any of this sounds good to you, and you play something, sing something, recite something, act out something, tap-dance something, joke about something ... check us out. There is no way you will not have a good time.
