Description Hello...you are looking at a original bathing suit from the Sutro Baths once located in San Francisco. The suit is approximately 100 years old. This suit is a mens, size 46 and is dark blue. There are a few small holes in the suit, but it is very good overall condition.

These suits were available for rent to patrons of the Sutro Baths. Very few have survived over the years, so do not miss this rare opportunity to own a unique piece of San Francisco history!
This suit is shown in a frame. The price listed of $650 does NOT include the frame...The frame is available for sale if you wish, but it will be an additional $200.

The Sutro Baths were built by Adolph Sutro and completed in 1894. Sutro made his fortune in the Reno Nevada silver mines and eventually was elected mayor of San Francisco. He built the baths next to the Cliff House Restaurant, overlooking the ocean. His residence was on a hillside across the street from the Baths and Cliff House.

The Baths consisted of seven pools, six saltwater and one fresh water. In addition to the seven pools, this splendid palace contained a museum.

Due to declining attendance, the baths were converted to ice skating in the late 1930's. Sutro's never regained it popularity and the baths began to decline. The Baths closed forever in 1962 and in 1964 plans were made to demolish the building and replace it with apartment buildings. As the Sutro baths building was being torn down in 1966, a suspicious fire burned to the ground. (many suspected that the building was torched by the construction company to save expenses) The apartments were never built and today the ruins of the baths are now part of the Golden Gate Regional Park system.

Please e-mail or call Phil at (510) 827-9055 with any questions or to see the suit in person.
