Position Description:
Habitot Children's Museum—a Berkeley-based hands-on discovery museum for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers—is seeking Summer Camp Instructors to plan and implement Habitot’s theme-based summer camp program in July and August 2006. This is a contract position. Responsibilities and qualifications are listed below.
This year’s camp includes the following eight themes: Beaches and Sunshine, Space Camp, Dinosaur Stomp, Land of Fairytales, I Love Bugs, Cars, Boats, Planes and Trains, Construction Zone, and Circus Circus.
Applicants must submit letter of interest, resume, and a brief curriculum plan for two of this year’s camp themes (one plan for 2-4 year olds and one plan for 3-5 year olds) into the body of an email and send to the reply-to email address on this posting. Position Responsibilities:
--Plan and lead developmentally and age-appropriate curriculum activities for children ages 2-5 for weekday morning and/or afternoon day camps
--Daily set-up and clean-up of classroom space
--Communicate with parents regarding their children
--Manage classroom supplies, such as toys, art supplies, books, and boxes of theme-related materials
--Keep attendance records of camp participants
--Communicate with Habitot’s Managing Director regarding camp curriculum and/or any other issues as necessary
Qualifications:
--B.A. or M.A. in Early Childhood Education or a related field
--Strong curriculum development skills
--1-2 years experience teaching preschool-aged children in a school or camp setting
--Firm understanding of parenting issues and early childhood development and behavior
--Must have CPR and FIRST AID Certification
--Background checks including Live Scan are required
--Excellent verbal communication skills with both children and adults
--Strong organization and problem-solving skills; ability to multi-task efficiently
--Physical energy and stamina
--Creativity, a sense of humor, and a love of children
