Intrax Cultural Exchange is a 20-year old group of organizations dedicated to international education and cultural exchange. Intrax programs help people to experience world cultures, increase their knowledge, and promote international peace and understanding.
Our Intrax International Institute division is seeking an experienced team leader for the position of Summer Camp Director for our San Francisco State University Summer Youth Program. The program brings 100-150 international students ages 8 18, from around the world to take English classes, meet American youth, go on activities and excursions around the Bay Area, and live in dormitories on the San Francisco State University Campus.
The program runs from July 15th through August 13th 2006, but the Camp Director will be expected to begin planning approximately 6-8 weeks in advance.
Position Responsibilities/Summary:
The Camp Director is responsible for the entire summer program operation. This includes academic issues, cultural issues, staff supervision, and facilities issues. This is a residential, live on-campus position for 4 weeks, 7 days per week.
The Camp Director works very closely with the San Francisco Center Assistant Director Below is a summary of the general responsibilities of the position:
Responsible for the overall supervision of the program, students, escorts, and staff.
Hire qualified, experienced ESL teachers and schedule classes.
Hire and supervise the Resident Assistants.
Administer placement test and exit test to all students.
Organize and lead Student Graduations.
Assist with the hiring of the High School Student Mentors. Directly supervise the Student Mentors.
Assist with the arrangement of Evening Conversation Club volunteers.
Oversee the arrangement of and supervise student afternoon and evening activities, welcome parties, excursions, etc.
Ensure that program rules are enforced and followed.
Manage to the approved summer program budget provided and follow accounting procedures.
Coordinate campus facilities usage including classrooms, etc.
Work together with on-campus contacts.
The ideal candidate has:
Previous experience managing summer youth camps
A dynamic, positive, outgoing, hard-working and overall can do attitude
Experience managing to a program budget
Experience working with young international students, preferably in an ESL setting
Very strong organizational, communication, cross-cultural, and conflict-resolution skills
A high level of familiarity with San Francisco sites, attractions, and public transportation
