The position under the general direction of the UCCE County Director/ PI for Child and Youth Nutrition and Community Development Program (CYNCD)is responsible for:
A) Coordinating, and executing research projects that will address/evaluate the impact of nutrition education programs in early childhood settings; applying an environmental approach to create safe environment for children and families to change and maintain healthy eating behaviors and adopt physical activity daily. This will include design of control groups, data collection, statistical analysis, result analysis and interpretation, and preparation of complete written reports and scientific publications.
B) Supervision and training of NETA and CNAM staff working with evaluation, including Mentor Teachers and Site Administrators.
C) Organizing and collaborating in the different, Workshops or Seminars, resulting from the research projects and activities.

Coordinate, and execute all different phases of research projects. A total of 300 early childhood children and 13 Mentor Teachers will participate in the pre and post test. In addition 100 children and 8 sites will participate as part of the control group. Specifically this person will:
• Work with PI and UC Davis Specialist on the design on evaluation instruments. Select school sites to pilot the evaluation tool
• Collect and preparation of the training for Teachers and Parents.
• Meet regularly with UC Davis Specialist to prepare the Human Subject Protocol and other evaluative tools
• Design and schedule classroom observations.
• Train docents, and health service providers about the research projects

Conduct data collection and classroom observations , record eating behaviors of preschoolers and taking qualitative notes according to protocol designed by Principle Investigator. Candidate must have transportation to preschool sites in Alameda
Develops, adapts, and modifies nutrition education and promotion materials for health professionals, teacher, and parents/caregivers of children attending the Early Childhood Program in OUSD, YMCA of the East Bay (Hayward, Oakland and Pleasanton), trains professional staff total of (250) professionals and paraprofessionals. Oversees the nutrition education training for the Nutrition Education Assistants (NEA’s).
Provide project update to academic advisor on a weekly basis and complete written reports on all phases of the evaluation and prepare reports for the teachers and administrators.
Conduct literature research, prepare bibliographies, collect data, and prepare spread sheets.

Must have means to travel to other counties, proof of liability insurance on vehicle used is required, work flexible hours including weekends and/or some evenings. Must have a valid California Drivers License to operate a county vehicle. Must be willing to travel in California. Fingerprinting required.
