Siemens Information and Communication Networks, San Jose, CA
Project PACT (Pricing And Configuration Tool)
• Worked my way through as a project lead for PACT, Pricing & Configuration Tool. Responsible for working with the product support and marketing to identify software features. Organized the software team to deliver the features including managing the design, implementation, testing and release schedule with focus on quality.
• Designed and developed an object-oriented, XML-based Pricing and Configuration Tool (PACT). PACT is a web based application used by Siemens ICN as a sales tool to facilitate gathering of information and configuration of various complex Siemens communication products like Siemens switches, phones etc. PACT uses latest technologies and represents a classic example of how XML is used as a format of data storage and knowledge representation. The information about the products is represented in terms of classes that support the notion of inheritance, containment, reference etc. XSL/XSLT used for transforming XML to HTML. SAP is used as the backend Pricing Engine. Oracle 8i used as storage repository. Use of well defined interface between different system components. Development of this project done using IBM’s VAJ/WSAD. Deployment involves IBM’s WAS V5’s network deployment manager
• Designed and developed Entitlements for PACT to provide user profile definition and user authentication and authorization access to PACT. Entitlements are intended to provide user logon facility and a user administration facility and then pass-on the user profile information to one of several PACT servers in a round robin fashion. The user data is encrypted using the secured encryption package provided by Sun. Java, JSP, Servlet, JavaScript, JDBC technologies used for development. Oracle 8i used for the storage of data
• Designed and developed the persistence layer, a well defined interface to provide functionality to store and retrieve data. This persistent layer is one of the core layers of PACT. Developed the entire database schema for PACT in Oracle 8i. Also responsible for the Oracle Database Administration (DBA) for maintaining, updating schema as needed and hold ownership and responsibility for smooth transition during project release cycles. Responsibilities also include providing data for the sales reports, transporting changes to production server, provide snapshot of the production database etc. Have undertaken Oracle DBA and PL/SQL courses as part of the project training.
Project CRAFT:
• Integrated HiPath Teleworking feature into the configurator tool of CRAFT. CRAFT is a set of applications that help sell and implement Siemens products. Teleworking permits employees to work from home, enables them to be reached at single business number regardless of their location. This involves proper distribution of Teleworking cards, LAN connectivity cards onto an external teleworking server taking into consideration the power and traffic allowed on the server
• Integrated Automatic Call Distribution feature into the configurator tool of CRAFT. ACD is a feature that efficiently and economically routes, queues and distributes a high volume of incoming calls through Siemens telecommunication switches. Configuration includes validating the system against real time memory requirements, traffic engineering, distributing the cards on the ACD server and producing the information needed by the other tools in CRAFT. Configuration of switch features involves interaction with databases residing at CRAFT servers, RPCs to call out the configured components on these servers
• Designed and developed a client-server application to interface with Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet using OLE Automation Client objects for Excel. This was implemented in Visual C++ using MFC and TypeLib, a variant of Standard Template Library

08/99 – 10/99 Software Engineer, Actuate Software Corporation, San Mateo, CA
• Responsible for client software development for e-reporting software using Microsoft Visual C++ interacting with database systems like Oracle, Sybase etc. Additional responsibilities include configuration management and automation of release software using Perl & Shell scripts
05/98 – 12/98 Summer Intern, Alliance Data Systems, Dallas, TX
• Developed an application to post jobs on the Intranet using Perl and C shell script. This tool was implemented in a modular and reusable way and was later used with minimal changes to develop another trading post application
• Designed and developed online telephone directory for the intranet. The online tool also implemented a search engine using Microsoft Access and Perl. This application was used to search for the phone number of the person from the employee database in the access
• Developed a Perl script to generate “site index” and “site map” for the Intranet. The script was automated to refresh and regenerate the site index and site map for any modifications to the intranet web pages
• Performed extensive client-server and database programming to access customer information from IBM Mainframe using OPAL software package
