We are a San Francisco based engineering startup (established for a few years now) that develops the world's smallest Windows XP handheld computer. This position in in our IT department, supporting engineers as well as business and administrative users.
senior systems administrator
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for managing our corporate technology infrastructure and business system (ERP/CRM) platforms; developing, implementing and overseeing all Linux/Unix and Windows servers, network systems, backup strategies, software licensing, support agreements. Our server environment is about 50% linux and 50% Win2k3.

- Exchange 2003 and Active Directory management
- Storage Systems administration (Windows Storage Server, NetApp FAS720)
- Database Admin and backups (Progress Software RDBMS, MySQL)
- Production web server management (load balancer, firewall, web servers)
- Technical lead on all IT department projects
- Escalated technical support to engineering, business systems and administrative groups.
- Hardware and software installation (servers)
- Linux workstation setup
- Asterisk VoIP PBX systems management
requirements
- Windows Server Administration: Exchange 2003, Windows Storage Server, ActiveDirectory
- Windows VB scripting
- Windows / Unix integration (Cygwin, Samba, etc)
- 5+ years Linux (RHE3, RHE4) on X86 hardware
- 3+ years sendmail/postfix experience
- 2+ years experience with LDAP / "single sign on" systems.
- 2+ years experience with version control systems (Subversion and CVS)
- 5+ years experience with DNS, DHCP, NFS, Samba
- 5+ years with all or many of the following network systems: Cisco PIX firewalls / VPNs / routers (2+ years IOS experience); Sonicwall VPN concentrators, Juniper VPNs
- 5+ years experience with large enterprise network switches (e.g. Cisco 5000 series) and VLANs
- 5+ years experience with Rsync, SSH, Shell scripting (bash, zsh, sh), Perl
- 2+ years MySQL database administration and SQL query development
- 5+ years experience with Apache configuration, management and tuning, WebDAV, mod_perl
- 2+ years PHP deployment and some development
- 5+ years Datacenter Experience, plus experience running a "lights out" remote data center.
- 2+ years experience with onitoring systems: SNMP, MRTG, Nagios, etc. (Bonus points for custom RRDtool development.)
- Some experience with Asterisk VoIP PBX systems
- Experience with IT department tools including Request Tracker (RT3), Bugzilla, Mantis, Wikis
- Bachelors degree or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of Linux/Windows Sysadmin experience;
- RHCE and MSCE certification preferred
- Good attitude in the face of challenges and deadlines
- Be able to be a team player or work independently as appropriate
- Excellent end-user relations, organizational skills, and oral and written communication skills.
