My 6 years old keep asking for a dog, so after long consideration, I agreed, knowing that I’ll be the one taking care of the dog. We live in a house with a huge back yard, with plenty of space for the dog to run.
So now, we have to find a dog suitable for kids (my daughter is 8); I went online and start looking for a puppy or a young dog, we even drove to the Alameda County Animal Shelter without luck. By the way, they are the most affordable if you want to adopt a dog, around $ 100.
The others, like SPCA or rescue groups are so expensive ($250- $400) that makes no sense at all.
I understand that all have expenses and that they spay or neutered all animals before adoption, but their ultimately goal is getting the animal adopted right?
With all the red tape and expensive fees the only thing they do is avoiding precisely that.
In other words, seem to me that they rather euthanize the dogs ( I doubt that they keep them forever) than lower the fees and make it easier for people to get an animal.
Anyway, that’s my rant, I just wanted to vent a little...
Any ideas?
