Have you tried traditional talk therapy and been frustrated with a lack of progress? Perhaps you gained valuable insight, yet noticed that nothing really seemed to shift in your life? If so, then you might be interested in Somatic Resourcing.
Somatic Resourcing combines bodywork, mindfulness and supportive counseling to help you achieve your goals. "Somatic" comes from the Greek word “soma,” which means “the living body or self in its wholeness.” Somatic Resourcing is a body-centered, "whole person" approach that will help you access and utilize inner resources. It is all about discovering and enhancing your body’s inherent capacity to guide and support you.
The type of bodywork used in Somatic Resourcing is not massage. Rather, it involves consciously working with sensation and impulse in the body, and discovering how it is connected to the way that you are organized emotionally and psychologically. Some work is done on a massage table, and some while standing or sitting. All work is done fully clothed.
My approach is also heavily influenced by my practice of Buddhist Vipassana meditation, which has taught me the importance of attending to lived experience in an open, curious, compassionate and non-judgmental way. This is the same attitude which I bring to the work we do together, and one which I will encourage and support you in cultivating as the work progresses.
The supportive counseling which I offer will help you take advantage of what you learn through bodywork and mindfulness, so that you can use your somatic experience as a resource for developing new strengths, making choices in alignment with your best interests, and expanding your current sense of who you are and what you are capable of achieving.
Somatic Resourcing is particularly useful for issues related to:
~ body image, chronic illness, disability, overweight, sexual concerns
~ relationships, including polyamory or “open” relationship issues
~ trauma, including physical and/or sexual abuse, and exposure to life-threatening situations
~ life transition, career change, clarifying life direction
~ grief and loss, depression, anxiety
I work with individuals, partners, and groups of all ages. LGBTQ-friendly.
My office is located in North Beach, at the foot of Telegraph Hill, close to the financial district and easily accessible by multiple bus lines.
My fee is $80 for a one-hour session. A limited number of sliding scale spots are also available.
Please call for more information or to set up an appointment.
I look forward to hearing from you!
