Senior Software Engineer - Client Applications
JOB DESCRIPTION
For each of the services that Pure Digital provides, a customer facing application entails a significant portion of the user experience. A customer who uses one of our highly lauded single use cameras or camcorders continues using the application on their CD or DVD long after the camera has been processed. These applications allow for viewing of photos and video clips, creation of slide shows and movies, and also an amazingly simple manner for sharing users’ memories with family and friends. A customer who uses the Rite Aid website to print their digital photos at their nearest store does so using a Pure Digital client application that interfaces with our back-end servers which are connected to every Rite Aid location.
Our services and products are mentioned in the press not only for the low cost at which we make digital photos and videos available but also for the incredible ease of use with which a customer interacts with our cameras, camcorders, and especially our customer facing applications. These applications need to be usable by people who do not regularly use photo-editing and movie-creation software. They need to be very intuitive and user friendly.
The ideal candidate for this position has the engineering experience and skill set to work hands-on with all of our client applications, and also the communication and management abilities required to effectively own those applications that are developed by third parties. This candidate is well versed in various technologies and can search out new 3rd party products and services that can enhance our customers’ experiences. This candidate is creative and driven to help produce world class applications that are simple and yet full featured. This candidate is passionate about being a member of a small yet growing team of highly dedicated people who are committed to providing an excellent experience to their customers that continues to enhance the prestige of the Pure Digital brand.
INITIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain Pure Digital’s existing client applications.
• Manage the external resources used for some of these projects.
• Own the vision for the next generation client applications. Work with Sales and Marketing to develop applications that are user-friendly and robust.
• Investigate 3rd party products and services that can add value to our client applications.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 5+ years of sophisticated client application development experience
• Experience working with User Interface designers
• Developing UI and presentation layers that interact with underlying and back-end systems
• Ability to understand and effectively own an existing software design
• Demonstrable OO design skills; ability to discuss design rationale and tradeoffs
• Significant expertise in C#, Java or C++
• Experience managing third party development teams
• BSCS/MSCS or equivalent
PREFERRED SKILLS:
• Experience in developing client applications for consumers
• Significant experience with MFC, Win32
• Experience developing sophisticated web and online applications using technologies such as Macromedia Director, Macromedia Director Xtras, JavaScript, HTML,
• Experience developing video or imaging applications
• Experience developing using Macromedia Director and developing Macromedia Director Xtras
