Jack Daniel's Properties, Inc. handles all the intellectual property protection work for Jack Daniel's and the wines and spirits brands of Brown-Forman Corporation, JDPI's parent company. Brown-Forman was founded in 1870 by George Garvin Brown, a young pharmaceuticals salesman in Louisville, Kentucky, who had the then-novel idea of selling top-grade whiskey in sealed glass bottles. Out of his idea grew a company that in fiscal 2005 had wines and spirits sales of $2.1 billion. Brown-Forman, one of the largest American-owned companies in the wine and spirits business, produces and markets many of the most well-known and best-loved wines and spirits in the world. This is a managing level trademark paralegal position, handling the day-to-day trademark operations of the Jack Daniel’s portfolio of marks and many other well known wine and spirits brands (owned by our parent company).
Of particular note, our Sr. Trademark Paralegal will:
* Manage trademark clearance process and prepare necessary clearance reports;
* Handle and direct (with a staff of three) the day to day prosecution of domestic and foreign trademark and copyright applications;
* Provide guidance to clients regarding proper use of trademarks
* Work with trademark counsel in reviewing advertising, point-of-sale and promotional materials for IP issues
* Conduct with trademark counsel strategic trademark portfolio and budget reviews
* Assist in domestic and foreign litigation and enforcement;
* Oversee the Company's IP information and file software and systems
* Share supervision role of trademark staff (two paralegals and one legal assistant)
Qualifications: The Senior Trademark Paralegal needs to be able to take initiative, think independently, write well and perform sophisticated tasks of a highly sensitive nature which affect the Company's valuable brand names. More specifically, they must posses the following:
* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
* At least ten years experience as a trademark paralegal with high-level responsibilities on a global trademark portfolio.
* Prior law firm or corporate IP department experience
* Ability to consistently plan, organize, work independently, think critically, meet deadlines and remain flexible in a multi-task environment.
* Outgoing personality
* Be proficient with MS Office products, particularly MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. E-mail is on Lotus Notes.
