Reporting to the Technical User Support and Training supervisor in the Information Services Division of the Administrative Office of the Courts, the Senior System Administrator position will provide desktop support for 100 computer systems, LAN administration for two servers, and leadership for assigned team members. The Technical User Support and Training unit is responsible for wide- and local-area networks, as well as purchasing, supporting, and providing training on hardware and software for the appellate courts and the AOC.
Responsibilities:
Under supervision, the Senior Systems Administrator serves in a lead capacity and directs the work of assigned team members.
Leadership and Direction
- Organize and assign work assignments for team members on a project or day-to-day basis;
- Set priorities and follow up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work;
- Train and mentor team members on work procedures and use of software;
- Provide input for hiring decisions and performance evaluations of team members; and
- Serve as subject matter expert and work independently on more complex/sensitive projects.
Equipment System Implementation
- Using knowledge of telecommunications, network and other systems environments, install and operate systems, servers, personal computers, laptops and other peripheral equipment in a Microsoft Active Directory environment;
- Evaluate, coordinate, plan and implement software upgrades, using knowledge of business application software; and
- Support new technologies being tested and developed by the AOC with minimal formal training and support.
Maintenance, Monitoring and Troubleshooting
- Analyze system performance and maximize efficiency;
- Maintain and monitor communications between the AOC and outside agencies and vendors; and
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of an inventory for computer equipment, user accounts, configurations, software releases and associated supplies.
Organizational Skills
- Organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple work activities to meet critical deadlines.
Communications
- Create and update operating procedure manuals; and
- Prepare written reports, project plans and recommendations, as requested.
Occasional work during non-business hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays) to respond to information systems emergencies will be required. The incumbent may be required to travel statewide, as necessary, with overnight trips of up to one week.
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Equivalent to three years experience operating and maintaining a local area network and providing technical user support, including one year of lead experience; OR one year as a Systems Administrator II with the judicial branch.
- Strong knowledge of Windows XP/2003.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office 2000 suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- System administration experience in a Microsoft Active Directory environment
Ability to:
- Transport equipment and materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Organize, prioritize and coordinate own work activities to meet critical deadlines;
- Maintain updates to operating procedure manuals;
- Maintain accurate records of work performed;
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members and AOC users;
- Listen, understand, and convey communications effectively, verbally and in writing;

- Ensure high level of user satisfaction with every interface.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to assess user requirements and implement creative solutions.
- Familiar with the following hardware:

- Palm OS and Windows-based handhelds
- HP printers
- Familiarity with remote access solutions & web-based technologies.
Working knowledge of Symantec Antivirus/backup software.
