Senior Manager, Analytics & Metrics Development
Primary Job Responsibilities
As one of eBay’s revenue-generating business units, PayPal’s vision is to become the new global standard for online payments. Working within the Financial Planning and Analysis function and Reporting to the Director of Standard Analytics & Metrics, this high-profile, business-facing position will manage a small but high-powered team responsible for the conceptualization, definition, design, development, delivery and management of PayPal’s standard analytics and metrics. This position will also work closely with PayPal’s Information Management & Delivery function on the development of the next generation of PayPal’s analytics and metrics infrastructure. The candidate will be expected to: - provide thought-leadership related to the conceptualization / creation of new and/or improvement/streamlining of existing business insights for PayPal’s FP&A group, the broader finance organization and the PayPal business
- facilitate the communication / prioritization process and provide leadership / cross-functional project management to drive superior results related PayPal’s business insights and the related datasets, reporting and other infrastructure
- innovate / drive the rapid development / prototyping process in order to facilitate the timely delivery of new business insights to the PayPal business
- collaborate closely with PayPal’s Information Management & Delivery group on the delivery into production of PayPal’s business insights and the related tools, reporting and infrastructure
- manage a team responsible for the following:
- Conceptualization and definition of and collaboration with PayPal’s IMD function on design and development of PayPal’s financial / analytical datamarts (Teradata and MS SQL Server)
- Understanding at an expert level the source, content, and definitions of data residing in PayPal’s data warehouse tables
- Conceive, design, and publish standard analytics, metrics and reports
- Conduct analyses that answer business critical questions related to PayPal’s: site activity, user acquisition and retention, market penetration, etc.
- Write and interpret complex SQL queries for standard as well as ad-hoc data mining purposes
- Translate complex quantitative information into presentations that are easily understood by general management
- Summarize and report key analytical findings in both oral and written form to different levels of management
- Undertake data integrity checks for various FP&A data sources
- Document highly automated and repeatable processes
Job Requirements
- BA/BS degree minimum, in economics, finance, engineering, math, statistics, or operations research. MBA or advanced degree preferred
- Must have outstanding academic credentials and a record of excellence and accomplishment
- 5 - 8 years work experience in a relevant field (min. 3 yrs. in a people management role), within a high growth, technology / ecommerce or payments company with minimal supervision
- The ideal candidates’ experience will include 3 – 5 years in a world class global consulting firm with emphasis in the development of metrics / KPI’s, business / enterprise performance measurement with Fortune 1,000 and/or top financial services companies
- Significant prior experience with complex transaction / customer analytics with very large transaction volumes, complex data structures, etc. required
- outstanding intellectual and quantitative analysis capabilities required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with multiple functional areas across the business
- Outstanding leadership / project management skills, ability to influence cross-functionally in rapidly evolving business environment
- Superb attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast paced and dynamic environment
- Advanced hands-on technical skills in Microsoft Excel / VBA with emphasis on financial analytics and/or data mining; Candidate should be prepared to talk through prior Excel based financial or quantitative analysis samples upon interview
- superb hands-on database skills (SQL) / data analytics skills, candidate must be highly proficient with various flavors of SQL, be able to extract / analyze data from data warehouse (Teradata / Oracle), SQL Server databases, familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services a plus
- Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate high energy/creativity, a relentless customer-focus, and an entrepreneurial spirit
