The Senior Accountant is responsible for analyzing and interpreting financial information as well as accurately compiling and reporting this information. The Senior Accountant proactively researches and documents conclusions on accounting issues with appropriate references to relevant GAAP pronouncements. The Senior Accountant documents abnormalities or significant changes, takes corrective action where necessary and reports this information to management. The Senior Accountant takes ownership for specific components of the consolidated Balance Sheet and Income Statement reviewing and confirming consolidated balances during monthend closing, and performing ongoing analytical review. This position requires a thorough knowledge of general accounting principles and their application as well as a demonstrated ability to apply these in the business context and will require research and documentation of technical accounting issues. The Senior Accountant completes complex account reconciliations and journal entries in support of the monthly close process and reviews reconciliations and journal entries prepared by staff accountants. Interaction with various levels of management within and outside of Finance, Internal and External Audit Teams, and participation in cross-functional projects will be a routine part of the job. This position operates with minimal supervision and needs little or no supervision when given new assignments, making decisions based on acquired skills and knowledge. May have responsibility for supervising or providing guidance to other accountants with similar occupational skills or limited scope of responsibility.
The Senior Accountant position is a leadership position within the accounting team. The candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, capable of handling multiple tasks, possess good organizational, communication and analytical skills, able to work independently and be extremely flexible. The Senior Accountant welcomes challenging/complex projects and has demonstrated an ability for working “smarter not harder” by making continuous improvement to the efficiency of processes he/she contributes to. Teamwork is essential to the group, so it is critical that the candidate interact with other team members and managers effectively. The candidate must have a BS in Accounting or related field, CPA and four years of professional accounting experience in a medium to large company or public accounting firm. MBA in Finance or related field and experience with Oracle Financials is highly desired.
