recently, I’ve found Craigslist personals to be a very effective avoidance technique from work I should be doing. even with all the obvious spelling and grammatical errors, it provides hours and hours of mind-numbing and productivity-killing entertainment…. figure I’d take the next step and add my own message-in-a-bottle to all the other weird companion-seeking manifestos floating about on the CL.
so what I’m looking for is pretty specific though not necessarily uncommon for my age (30) and this city. recently I've made the realization that I’ve somehow transitioned from fighting “the man,” to dancing for “the man,” to basically being “the man.”
my original plan was to dedicate my overeducated self to social justice. I did the requisite after college job in a third-world shantytown, followed by a bohemian nyc phase. now, I find myself in SF making some serious dough and realize that I’ve basically become the urban yuppie that my friends and I used to mock from our Lower East Side stoop with PBR’s in hand.
but it is what it is and I’ve decided to embrace my new reality as a washed up hipster cum young urban professional. To be honest, I do like the nice stuff associated with this caste. Nice pad, good food to eat, fancy threads, ability to travel, etc. I’ve retained my basic left-leaning liberal sensibilities, but the accoutrements of the yuppie world are nice.
I guess I’m looking for the other half of a young urban SF power couple. picture us listening to NPR and reading mother jones or the utne in the comfort of a swanky design-within-reach furnished apartment. we’d enjoy the nice stuff but retain some insight and the ability to laugh at our own absurdity.
I could go on-and-on, but then what would we talk about when we meet over cocktails? I’ll end with the basics, since that is what these posts boil down to…. Me, 30, 5’8,” 150, asian, bruce lee wannabe. You, 25-35, cool, can relate to above, fun and funny.
I'd post a pic but I'm afraid of the ridicule and abuse I'd be subjected to by friends and family. as they say, pic for pic....
