WEEKEND en español® has been working successfully in the Bay Area with adult learners of Spanish as well as youth for the last eighteen years. We are now looking for experienced Spanish teachers who are available some day-time, some evenings and some weekend days for part-time work. We are a full-service language school, offering evening and day-time Group Classes and Weekend Workshops, corporate and private contracts, private lessons, and SEMANA en español™, our 11-day residential immersion programs in Oaxaca, México. We are looking for individuals who will be able to fully integrate into our programs and methods, which are based on experiential, associative, and contextual learning, and also bring new ideas and creativity to the task. Our teachers are also expected to contribute in the office with sales and promotion or administrative tasks when called upon to do so. Our work together is truly a collaborative effort and we take joy and pride in the progress of each and every student.
The successful candidates will be experienced, dedicated, professional educators, commited to the on-going success of our students as well as that of the school. These positions are for strong teachers, with solid experience and overall sense of scope and sequence of Spanish language instruction in general. Candidates must possess the ability to work independently and creatively, and yet follow our established guidelines and standards, and the flexibility to work with the sometimes changing market and schedule. These are permanent, part-time jobs (up to approximately half-time equivalency). We do not hire for summer work only or short-term only assignments. We do not hire inexperienced teachers, or teachers who have only taught English or other subjects. We prefer teachers who have worked with adults before, but consideration will be given to teachers with other experience teaching Spanish. Native or like-native fluency in Spanish, thorough knowledge of grammar, ability to teach reading and writing as well as oral skills, familiarity with literature and printed materials in Spanish, and willingness to grow professionally are basic requirements for this work. A practical working knowledge of spoken English is also required.
Our teachers work on a contract basis, with assignments of one to four nights a week, taking 2 back-to-back sections per night. Classes meet from 6:00 to 7:30 pm and from 7:30 to 9:00 pm, once a week. Daytime work varies, but often there are some daytime Group Classes per week and a number of private student hours and/or corporate group hours. Weekend assignments consist of Full-Day Workshops, 9 am to 4 pm, or Half-Day Workshops, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 to 5:00 pm. We cannot guarantee any specific number of Classes or hours per week or month, since assignments are subject to enrollment. New staff members are given training and support in using our materials and methodology, and in developing their teaching skills. Teaching staff may not work with other Spanish schools or maintain their own private client base during their employment with us. Candidates must be available two or more nights a week, and several Saturdays and/or Sundays per month. The Weekend Workshop schedule varies with the level and theme of the Workshop.
Our approach emphasizes oral communication skills, but provides students with a solid foundation in grammatical structures and a thorough mastery of the verb system. We are dedicated to excellence in language training for adults and youth; in our seventeen years of working in the Bay Area, our students have come to expect high quality in every aspect of their experience here--the scope and breadth of the teachers‚ preparation and knowledge, as well as the materials, and the personal yet professional treatment they receive from all of us here.
We would welcome the addition to our staff of experienced Spanish teachers who are eager to serve a growing segment of our society that truly needs and wants to become fluent in Spanish.
