The Verde Partnership Garden is a school and community garden project committed to providing quality care and education to Verde Elementary School children and their families. Our objective is to use the garden as an outdoor laboratory to bring classroom learning to life and to promote student leadership. We are growing the garden to grow children, families and partnerships along with food and flowers. Our vision is to expand the garden into a connective hub and safe haven in the community and provide access to affordable organic vegetables for community members.
Job Responsibilities:
The Deputy Director will support the project director in programmatic and organizational areas; assist with classroom garden groups, help prepare reports and grants, assist in bookkeeping, maintain records, manage the calendar, and assume responsibility for other projects and duties as needed. The deputy director will resonate with and feel a commitment to further the mission of the Verde Partnership Garden.
Skills and Experience:
• Leadership skills and ability
• Experience developing and implementing hands-on environmental education programs for youth
• Experience with grant writing and development
• Comfortable with diverse populations. Bilingual Spanish/English a plus.
• Ability to work independently and pro-actively
• Ability to handle efficiently and effectively multiple projects and topics at one time.
• Ability to work as a team with garden and school staff.
• Computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Excel
Initially this position will be part-time through June 06 and has the potential for full-time status starting September 2006.
