We are seeking a highly independent and motivated individual for inside office support of our marketing and sales team. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in beginning a career in book publishing, distribution, or in marketing and sales generally. This is an entry-level position with excellent potential for advancement in a small but growing company.

China Books & Periodicals, Inc., based in South San Francisco, is America's largest and oldest publisher and distributor of books, periodicals and other cultural products from and about China. Since 1960, we have been the main source for publications in the fields of literature, history, political science, language, culture and the arts for millions of North Americans who want to know more about one of the world's oldest civilizations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Handling general office tasks such as answering phones and routing calls
• Processing customer orders and providing customer support
• Assisting with catalogs, newsletters and promotional mailings
• Creating and maintaining office files, calendars, and other documents
• Computer proficiency (PC platform) for data entry, preparing and printing office documents
• Performing other duties in support of the marketing and sales department as necessary
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• B.A./B.S. or equivalent combined education and relevant experience
• Some internship or entry-level experience related to the responsibilities specified
• Detail oriented, well organized and flexible
• Excellent written, verbal, and Internet communication skills
• Strong organizational skills, ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel)
• Ability to perform simple accounting procedures
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES PREFERRED:
• Self-starter, able to handle new tasks and show initiative in problem solving
• Familiarity with Microsoft Access and Quickbooks preferred
• Knowledge of and interest in Chinese culture preferred
