Description recently, a guy in my office was killed in an auto accident. it happened over a holiday weekend so only a few people knew about it prior to our all coming back to work. even though we work in a very large office he was well known and well liked. when we did return to work it was discovered that a lot of his stuff was missing from his desk. all of his pictures were gone, his giant change jar was gone, so was his laptop, his cool little boom box and a bunch of other things. people just assumed his family had come in and collected his things but his boss had no word of this and when she checked she found out he only had a brother and he lived back east. it was evident that his stuff had been stolen. security was immediately brought in and suspicion was soon cast on one or all three of the early morning client reps who start work hours before anyone else arrives in the office. the three women, all black, were individually questioned while their work areas were searched. the security guys soon found most of the stolen items in the reps desks. in the one reps trash can they found all of the pictures that had been removed from the frames which used to sit on the dead guys desk, all torn into pieces. the thieves quickly fessed up and just as quickly were convinced to quit (or be handed over to the cops). as the three were being escorted from the office by security we all tried not to look on. my boss, who i had to that point considered extremely liberal, walked over to me and wispered in a dead-pan tone, "they just couldn't help themselves." now i feel sad and want to move where there are no black people.
