Petition Gatherers needed to get rid of Diebold and go back to hand-counted paper ballots. Petition can be downloaded at www.studycaliforniaballots.org. So far we have 500 signatures and have mailed/hand-delivered them to many legislators. This is a paper petition, and not "official" in that we have to be fussy about what county the signers are in. Any citizen can sign it. It's like a big letter to the legislators saying we want to trust our voting system again. We send the petitions and pertinent articles on the problems of voting machines or we hand-deliver them to governor, State Senators, State Assembly Members, Mayors, and all politicians who are going to be hurt with Diebold (All of them! Those running for office are important to contact so that they can focus on this as an issue. It is the most important issue there is. If we can't trust the vote, we're not in a democracy.
We need to also approach Board of Supervisors in all counties and insist that their County Recorders are not being bought by Diebold (as LA County's County Recorder appears to be.) Conny McCormack's photo is/was on the Diebold website and she is on their brochures. She also made a speech to the Senate saying how we don't need a paper trail because people like the macines so much. If this is true, why do so many people vote by absentee now? They think their votes will be counted! But the opti-scanners are scammers- they are rigged too! Who is Conny McCormack working for? Diebold or the people of Los Angeles County? Remember, Los Angeles County is the largest county in the country. It is very dangerous for such a fan of Diebold to be in charge of voters in a blue city.
Diebold has fancy parties and receptions for all County Recorders. This is a conflict of interest! Please- Help gather signatures and help bring out democracy- investigate all County Recorders who push for the machines that cheat- find out how much Diebold, ES&S, Sequoia and Hart-Intercivic are giving them in gifts and free trips, and get this petition in the hot little hands of the Secretary of State who has approved Diebold conditionally, even though felons run it. McPherson gets his orders from Karl Rove. Do we want California to be then ext Ohio or Floria? Can we afford another state that is bought out by the machines? NO! Time to REVOLT AGAINST THE MACHINES! CITIZEN PETITION-- Hand-Counted Paper Ballots at the Precinct-–NO DIEBOLD!
We the undersigned citizens of the State of California have the right to expect that the votes that are cast are accurately counted in public without fraud or secret software. Researchers in the Government Account-ability Office Report, (October 2005), found that electronic voting machines, scanners, and tabulators are insecure, unreliable, and easily hacked. The software used in these machines is proprietary and kept secret by the machines’ manufacturers, so that neither elections officials nor the public are allowed to inspect or validate it. Therefore, any fraud committed using these machines and software is very difficult to detect. We do not want Diebold, ES&S, Sequoia, Hart-Intercivic or any voting machines.
We demand that the voting process be controlled publicly, not privately. We demand that local, state, and federal government officials control, inspect, and understand these processes. Hand-counting paper ballots at precincts is the vote counting method least susceptible to fraud, and therefore we ask you to write legislation requiring the use of hand-counted paper ballots at the precinct level, as most of the world’s democracies do, including Canada and Germany.____________________________________
