Sequoia Foundation, a subcontractor to the California Department of Toxics Substances Control, seeks a full time Research Assistant to work on an exposure assessment study using breast milk to investigate risk factors for exposures to the brominated flame retardants, the polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and to the polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). This position is in located in Berkeley at the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory (formerly Hazardous Materials Laboratory), Department of Toxics Substances Control.
Major Duties:
* Oversee tracking of breast milk and serum samples, as well as exposure assessment questionnaires, consent forms, and house dust and dryer lint samples
* Integrate questionnaire responses with analytical lab data from breast milk samples.
* Perform statistical analyses as required on the exposure questionnaire data and analytical lab data to determine potential risk factors for PBDE and PCB exposures.
* Make figures and tables
* Assist in writing manuscripts for scientific, peer-reviewed journals, as well as reports to funding agencies.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in statistics, epidemiology, environmental health, or related field; experience in conducting statistical analyses, summarizing results, and preparing reports or manuscripts. Must possess a demonstrated ability to manipulate and analyze complex databases, and have used STATA or SAS, ACCESS, and EXCEL. Must be able to communicate effectively in speech and writing, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Requires knowledge of statistics and public health principles.
