So correct me if I wrong but, if your car gets towed, held and auctioned, the money from the auctions goes to the towing company, not your parking violations. This is what I heard. My stupid ex-girlfriend got a lot of tickets on my car and her stupid, lazy ass couldn't afford the tickets. This is ONE reason she is no longer my girlfriend, but I digress. My car is gone but I am still getting notices from the department of parking.
$2700 in DPT tickets!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Well, my car was towed today. Apparently, I racked up quite a few tickets I wasn't aware of. Not just a handful, but 27! And all have matured to $100 per, so to get my car back, I gotta shell out $2700, plus towing fees.
Now here's the thing. Not only do I not want to pay that amount, but I can't. I asked DPT about what, if any accommodations they could make on payment plans, fee reduction, anything. The answer was that after enough time, they simply auction off the car. I can't believe that everyone who can't pay back fees, understanding that my total is excessive, surrender their car.
My question for the all-knowing R+R craigslist experts is: Has anyone dealt with this and had any success in amending the demanded fees? Does anyone know if there is anything I can do? Also, even if I have to find a way to pay, is there an appeal process through which I can ask for leniency post-payment and possibly be refunded some of the amount? Thanks in advance for any and all informed advice.
