Hello! My name is Brittany and I am available for childcare in your home on an on-call basis. I have recently started a part-time job with a flexible schedule and am looking to supplement this work with occasional sitting. Perhaps you're looking to have someone available as a back-up nanny or just want a reliable sitter for when you need a night off! I'm a recent college graduate in my early 20's who moved to San Francisco very recently from the East Coast. I attended college in Massachusetts where I studied primarily social work/social justice, sociology, and cultural studies.
I have been happily caring for children part-time for over ten years. Throughout high school I babysat for local families with children of all ages and spent one summer as a full-time nanny. In college I worked as a tutor for pre-school age children at a head-start school, as well as for school-age children at an elementary school. While studying abroad in Mexico I volunteered at an orphanage where I cared for the infants. During the 2004-2005 school year I worked at my college's early education center (a Reggio Emilia school) in the infant room and I also babysat for several of the families on the evening and weekends. I have have worked with many families formed through adoption (my own included!) and have some experience caring for children with autism spectrum disorders. Although I enjoy working with children of all ages, I have a special love for the 0-5 age groups. I currently live in the Mission and strongly prefer a maximum 30-minute commute by public transportation (I do not have my own car).
It is my goal to create an enriching environment for play and learning and I enjoy planning a variety of activities that foster each child's unique interests. Some of my favorite activities are reading, art, sensory play (i.e water tables, sand, etc.), walks in the community, trips to the park, singing/musical instruments, and so much more. I am very inspired by the child-centered Reggio Emilia philosophy and I encourage you to check out this article that summarizes the Reggio approach: http://ecrp.uiuc.edu/v3n1/hertzog.html
If it sounds like we might be a good match, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail about your family and your childcare needs. Please note that my rate is $14-16 an hour.
