Ancient Maya claimed that we have been destroyed four times already and that we are now on the verge of total destruction and renewal perhaps....why do you think they would have had that opinion?
I have a "theory"....please try to understand it and respond with what you think of it and your own opinion. My theory may be a long posting so I hope you have a cup of java or soda and are sitting down.
Recently archeologists have uncovered in south america a few cities of unknown origin. In them are ancient pyramids larger than any in the world. This news isn't well publicized yet, but I've seen the pictures of a city covered in desert with the tops of pyramids sticking out of the soil.
Could this be a city whose people were killed or forced away? Perhaps.
This could be an age of mankind the Mayans documented.
So far men have been uncovering pyramids, cities, battlements, and graves.
Archeologists have studied as much as they can to understand and document our ancient history. Religion is an aspect they study as well. What they find is what they uncover. We know human sacrifice was an aspect of religion, even in europe, and perhaps the middle and far east....making it worldwide.
Entire nations were destroyed. We know this for a fact....
To break away from this for now...
Let me bring in something else.......
There are religions throughout the world where gods or angels appear and influence people. After all it is the essence of religion...
Christians believe there is a God with others below him.... and some in a trinity....3 gods in 1....Others just that God is God, Jesus is the first angel, and the spirit being the power that makes it happen...yet other have different ideas...
Jews also believe in a God...Supposedly they follow commandments that insures that they have a homeland...and they await a messiah still. Jewish beliefs have evolved and there are also different views...
Muslims seem to hate everyone not Islamic these days....But claim to be a religion of peace even though Islamic history shows alot of ill upon fellow men, women, and children. And if killed in gods work expect 70 virgins in heaven?
Make no mistake though......All these religions are guilty of murder and have wars to show how far they will go to enforce their beliefs..
I personally consider them all to be FALSE....yet I am not agnostic.
Still there are other religions like Hindu's who believe in many gods, I consider many of these gods to be fallen angels, but that is my opinion.
They claim we will be reincarnated into other beings of higher or lower stature depending on how we live our lives in this existance....if that were true, there would be a distinct inbalance in nature....
Then there are the Buddists....I have a brother who claims to be a buddist.
But I was told that Budda is not a god.....so why worship his image and statue?
Why set up an alter if not idolizing him? I read about the Budda, apparently he was a prince who ran out on his family and country during war, later to be enlightened and returned as some mysitic to gain his power back. But he is no god. So why the big to do? I don't understand Buddists to well....
Still there is one more major religion to speak of, Animism, it claims to be the oldest religion of our species....I haven't heard of it until I did some research on it. Apparently it has no central belief other than we all have our souls as spirits before and after death. This includes the animals, vegetation and flora. I would compare it to some sort of paganisitic religion. It also has followers in throughout the world as well, but not as well known.
These are the six major religions of the world...there are many others which I haven't mentioned, but don't ignore.

Here is where science comes in.....this part I will keep short....
Today our society while based originally on religion, is actually being driven by technology and science....this is a fact.
Just look at all the wonderous changes our world has had due to Science and Technology. Science has come up with cures for simple diseases only one hundred years ago were a death sentance. Technology has given us the ability to see deep inside the atom and out to deep space. We are making great discoveries at a rate far greater than ever before. Even a 10th planet soon to be named after a greek god now called 2003ub313 has been discovered in our solar system. Yet others in different solar systems....We have uncovered the neutrino particle and solved it's nature.
We can be considered enlightend....by science...and dependant on our technology as never before. Example, one hundred years ago 90% of americans werer farmers, now it's less than 10%. These days we go to the supermarket, superstore, or shopping mall for our needs...is this not true?
We have real medical care our grandparents didn't have the luxury of.
I can mention many things we have accomplished...
We have also discovered how to kill in mass numbers along the way....as a matter of fact war has driven technology all along....in most cases....
In our knowledge of science we have researched biological agents for war, and have a sense not to further its development...
Here's an astonishing thought. What if all the rumors of UFO's turned out to be real? What if the angels and fallen angels in known religion are the aliens we have speculated? Suppose they had a relationship in the past with our ancestors?
Some have said they interbred with humans to make superhumans or monsters....an example of this is the case of Noah....mankind of the time lived long lives, and it is said angels interbred with human women....The Bible called them Nephalims....The greeks called them Titans....one was called hercules. Another example is Jesus Christ. There are great similarities of their stories. Anyway back to Noah, God sent angels to warn him to build an ark to save those he could...A destruction of the planet was to commence. An age of mankind was to end...
Do you see a pattern here?
Basically I'm trying to unite religion with science....I believe that there was and is a battle going on around us with us as hosts to the fight.
Back to my point....sorry if it seems I may have strayed from it but I believe I should bring to light what I can in my lifetime as I have little time left in me.(heart disease has a grip on my soul).
Anyhow, here is my theory in general....
I believe that our ancestors have been pitched against each other so as to keep our history ignorant to us and any future generations...
Religion has been used against Science and Science against Religion in a battle for control of our lives and civilization. An example of this is the European Dark Ages.....History and Science was suppressed by religion....only the elite and religious were aware of it. Latin was the written language and only priests and aristocrates could read Latin at the time when most men struggled just to survive. Man sought leadership for a future in Kings and Popes for europe and later in America.
I believe the wisdom of the power of science sometimes was overcome by those who knew how to use the technology but not control it.
This is my view of our lives today, A battle of Science, Technology vs religion is going on.
The latest example I can site is the nation of Iran trying to build a case they need nuclear energy. A nation who is run by religous group who claim to speak for god. They denied the Jewish holocaust ever happened. They claim Israel should be destroyed. I can't imagine ever allowing such a nation to have such power as that of the atom.
Could we be on the verge of total destruction again as the ancient Maya have predicted so long ago?

I apologize if what I say doesn't make sense, but I am trying to communicate to you this possible end to our civilization and perhaps together we can avoid it.
