AGENCY BACKGROUND
Goodwill Industries of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin, Inc. (“Goodwill”), is a not-for-profit social enterprise that provides job training, career advising and employment services to individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. In 2004, Goodwill provided workforce development programs and services to over 1500 people who have a disability or who faced other employment barriers such as homelessness, long-term welfare dependency, histories of incarceration or substance abuse, and language barriers. Goodwill’s workforce development programs are funded through the sale of donated goods in the Agency’s 17 thrift stores and boutiques, through private and government grants, and the generous financial support of our individual donors.
SUMMARY
Back on Track is a unique public-private, systems change initiative focused on young people, 18-30, who are at risk of incarceration following arrest and felony charges for low level narcotics sales. BOT utilizes a deferred entry of judgment model, in which the participant initially pleads guilty, but the plea is not entered. Upon successful completion of the year-long program, the participant withdraws their guilty plea and the District Attorney's Office drops the charges.
We are currently looking for a Placement Specialist to join the Back on Track team.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
As part of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team supporting Back on Track program participants and under the direction of the Job Placement Supervisor, the Placement Specialist will:
• Provide individualized job placement services leading to subsidized and unsubsidized employment for Back on Track participants.
• Achieve projected placement outcomes.
• Uses sales and marketing techniques to identify employers that will hire Goodwill consumers.
• Maintain a productive and cooperative relationship with Goodwill production, operations, and Career Services staff.
• Conduct Job Seeking Skills workshops on a regular basis.
• Participate in Back on Track, Placement Team and other applicable meetings.
• Maintain an in-depth knowledge of local labor market and employment trends.
• Keep accurate and up to date records and information on clients, employers, placements and all related data.
• Maintain working relationships with Goodwill Career Advisors, District Attorney’s Office and courts.
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants with an AA or BA degree in psychology, rehabilitation counseling, social work, or closely related fields of study or persons with a strong background in marketing or sales. Applicants should have experience in a human service setting. Applicants must have excellent communication skills, excellent communication, and strong cold calling skills. Experience working with the following populations a plus: physical or mental disabilities, deaf, homeless, immigrants, limited English speakers, ex-felons, ex-substance or alcohol abusers, at risk youth, physically abused women and severely disabled. Preference will be given to persons who are bilingual in spoken English and American Sign Language, Spanish, or Tagalog.
