Position Title: Zeum Guide
Reports To: Visitor Services Manager
Status: Part-time, non-exempt, temporary (school year only – through end of May)
Available immediately. Possible re-hire in September.
Hours: Wednesday through Friday 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Compensation: $13.00/hour

Zeum is a not-for profit, community-based art and technology museum serving children, youth and families in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Zeum is the only museum in the Bay Area where individuals of all ages, backgrounds, communities and learning styles combine hands-on use of animation, digital technology, electronic media, traditional and non-traditional materials, and the power of their imaginations to create high quality stories, movies, music, art and more. Ideally located in the heart of downtown San Francisco’s Yerba Buena cultural center and gardens, Zeum is housed in a unique 34,000 square foot facility.
Position Description:
As part of the Visitor Services Team, the Zeum Guide uses informal teaching techniques to assist visitors of all ages, backgrounds and learning styles with their creative experience in Zeum’s hands-on, family-friendly, high- to low-tech environment. The Zeum Guide also uses his/her creativity and educational experience to plan programs and workshops for children.
Responsibilities:
Assists the Visitor Services Team in the implementation of Zeum’s General Admission program by:
ß Serving as a program facilitator to visitors of all ages and backgrounds
ß Ensuring that all programs are presented to the public with the highest standards of excellence
ß Assisting the Visitor Services Team in the planning and implementation of new programs and workshops for children, youth and families
ß Facilitating creative art and technology activities for children, youth and families
ß Providing leadership to exhibit volunteers and interns
ß Working with small teams to ensure smooth operation of exhibit rooms
ß Maintaining exhibit supplies and assisting in exhibit and equipment maintenance
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to interact in relevant ways with persons form diverse backgrounds or with different learning styles.
ß Must love working, playing and CREATING with children, youth and families
ß EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH KIDS, K-2 GRADE PREFERRED
ß Experience in arts or education required
ß Experience teaching or working with youth in the visual, media, and/or performing arts required
ß Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
ß Out-going, self-motivated and a creative problem-solver
ß Interest and enthusiasm for new technologies and the arts
ß Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
ß Desirable: strong computer skills; working knowledge of Apple operating systems and various software applications (creative software knowledge preferred); fluency in a language other than English
