Hayes Valley Law Firm Seeks Part-Time IT Support
Specialist
Mid-sized
socially and environmentally progressive law firm offers fast-paced, friendly
atmosphere in converted Victorian offices for dynamic, motivated individual to
offer IT support to 35 users. (see below for job description and

Duties and
Responsibilities:
Technical
!
Day-to-day maintenance of the firm’s PCs, printers, and, in
consultation with the firm’s network consultant, the firm’s network
infrastructure.
!
Assist and train users in the use of Microsoft
Office and WordPerfect software packages.
Particular expertise in Word, Excel, and all features of Outlook is
essential.
!
Assist and train users in configuring individual
workstations and troubleshooting workstation operating system and network
connection issues.
!
Develop and train users in internal productivity
enhancement tools such as Microsoft Word macros and style sheets and
development of firmwide contact lists in Outlook.
!
Maintain and verify rotating daily backup of the
local network servers.
!
Ensure maintenance of offsite backup in case of
catastrophic network failure.
!
Ordering and installation of new workstations
and installation of new software
!
Maintain and update an inventory listing of all new
and current equipment on a monthly basis.
!
Maintain network security against internal and
external threats of virus infection or spyware in consultation with the firm’s
network consultant.
!
Keep accurate records of all license counts and
make sure the firm is compliant with all licensing standards set by software
manufacturers.
!
Be available or arrange for support during all
hours of firm operation and after normal hours of operation if a critical
situation affecting employees’ ability to use the network or PCs should arise
(there is typically little or no use of the system by firm employees between
the hours of 10pm and 6am).
Additional
Duties
!
Analyze and evaluate the IT needs on a continual
basis making recommendations that will contribute to the success of the firm.
!
Act as liaison to the firm’s network consultant
for additional services as needed.
!
Represent the firm in a positive and
professional manner at all times and demonstrate the values presented in our
firm philosophy.
!
Assist with special projects as needed.
!
Attend all meetings and training sessions as
required.
!
Maintain a professional and orderly
appearance.
Qualifications
Preferred:
!
At least one year experience providing desktop
support as a support specialist in a demanding workplace.
!
MS Office Specialist certification
!
Experience in NT and Active Directory (Windows
2000/2003) environment and with Citrix, Microsoft Exchange, Veritas backup
software, and McAfee anti-virus/spyware software.
!
Familiarity with the software used throughout
the firm including WordPerfect,
Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, TABS III and DTE.
!
Strong interpersonal and communication skills in
one-on-one and group settings.
!
Strong troubleshooting abilities.
!
Excellent organizational skills.
