Description Glass, Lewis & Co. is an analytical research firm that uses proprietary research and extensive analysis to objectively evaluate the corporate governance, financial transparency and shareholder safeguards of publicly-traded domestic and international companies and advise shareholders on the exercise of their voting rights. The firm provides its opinions to participants in the capital and financial markets.

One of our products is called Proxy Paper. We write advice for institutional shareholders on how to vote their shares in corporate elections. This involves analyzing the members of the board of directors and other issues that come before shareholders for a vote. We focus on financial and economic analysis although corporate governance plays an important part in everything we do.

The head of research at our firm is Lynn Turner, the former Chief Accountant of the S.E.C. Our firm was founded by former investment bankers, lawyers, accountants and public policy professionals.

Qualifications

We are seeking to hire full-time temporary research analysts to cover Japanese companies. Native-level Japanese reading skills are required, as well as excellent English writing skills. This position also requires an ability to quickly process information and to work effectively under pressure. Attention to detail is crucial. Knowledge of economics, finance, political science, public policy, corporations (and/or corporate law) would be ideal. Desire to work in a fast-paced and fun environment with other bright people is a must! Potential candidates are either recent graduates with strong analytical and writing skills, or those interested in further business experience.

Position Description

You will analyze company filings in Japanese, summarize their issues and offer recommendations in English about them to large institutional investors. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the intricacies of the corporate world, to research publicly-traded domestic and international companies and the individuals involved with them, and to work at the forefront of the emerging corporate governance movement. This will also be a valuable experience for those wishing to pursue graduate studies or careers in law, business or public policy, among others. We will provide analysts the necessary training on how to analyze various sections of a proxy statement and the reports we develop from our research.

Employment will begin in April and continue through June.

Analysts will be compensated at the rate of $2,500 per month.
