POSITION PURPOSE:
The Network/Security position will report directly to the IT Manager. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to design, implement, and maintain the network infrastructure, WAN/MAN infrastructure, remote access components, cabling systems. The position will also require senior design and implementation experience of network wide operations and proactive monitoring systems. Duties will include the management of day-to-day Network and security operations. This includes the network, perimeter network, network security, Windows and UNIX infrastructures. This position will require strong technical, documentation, communication, customer service. This position will also be required to do some desktop support.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage and perform proactive monitoring of all technical areas of responsibility to provide daily usage and error statistics; develop Standard Operating Procedures and documentation for each monitoring event
• Manage and maintain day-to-day operation of Networking and Security systems
• Design, implement and maintain all wiring closets (copper, fiber, wireless). Work with Facilities team to coordinate all future requirements
• Create and maintain accurate documentation, operating procedure, and best practices for areas of responsibility
• Participate in the design and research of network, security, server farm, and infrastructure architecture changes
• Participate in the R&D of IT technology
• Provide escalation services to support desktop requirements
• Aid in the planning, design, and implement the necessary Linux/Unix migration strategies to support the roll out of new technology.
• Provide off-hour support as required.
• Will be required to do Desktop support as required.
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
• Must be able to occasionally do some repetitive bending, lifting and stooping when cabling.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• University or college graduate majoring in the areas of computer science or computer information systems
• Minimum of 5 years experience designing, implementing, and maintaining high-performance data networks, server farms, and voice networks. Equipment knowledge preferred includes Foundry, Cisco, and/or Nortel equipment.
• Minimum of 5 years experience configuring and maintaining large router, switches, firewalls, IDS, and monitoring appliances. Equipment preferences include: Foundry, NetScreen, Checkpoint, Snort, Packeteer, Web Inspector, Network Observer, Sniffer
• Must have solid knowledge of IP network design and router/hub/switch technologies with the RIP, OSPF, BGP routing protocols. Minimum 5 years experience with decoding and troubleshooting IP networks and hosts.
• Minimum of 5 years experience with the following protocols: TCP/IP, Appletalk; IPX/SPX and NetBeui are optional
