The Information Technology department supports the administrative and programmatic activities of the Foundation at its headquarters in Menlo Park, its regional office in Mexico City, and at numerous homes and telecommute sites. We provide a very high level of support to the Foundation’s small, but extremely mobile, workforce. The department maintains a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure, supports numerous enterprise applications, and has a growing in-house software development capability. Our departmental culture is characterized by teamwork and a deep commitment to customer service.

We are in search of an intelligent, hard working, motivated, talented, focused, and energetic individual to join our department as the Network and Server Team Lead. The Network and Server Team Lead is responsible for all information system operations activities, including server and network operations, troubleshooting, security, documentation, service agreements, licensing, backup/recovery and system performance. This position is also responsible for providing technical guidance and direction to other team members. The position reports to the Foundation’s Chief Information Officer.

Responsibilities:
 Architect and manage all aspects of the Foundation’s networks: LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, and VPN (remote access), including the regional office (Mexico City), remote sites (e.g., Washington, DC) and employee home offices. Monitor and maintain network uptime; Schedule maintenance downtime; Capacity planning; Circuit management; Traffic monitoring.
 Design and manage Windows 2003/2000 Server Active Directory, group policies, and all network resources and services (file shares, printers, etc.).
 Manage Exchange 2003-based email service, including remote access, mobile access via Blackberry, and Barracuda anti-spam firewall.
 Manage the Foundation’s Cisco VoIP Phone System, Unity Unified Messaging System, and Captaris RightFax (Fax-to-email) Server.
 Manage the machine room and the in-building cabling, including backup power systems and the wireless (cellular) signal enhancer and antennas.
 Manage equipment lifecycle: plan, budget, purchase, and maintain all network equipment, servers, and storage (SAN/NAS).
 Develop, maintain, and document all network configurations and standard operating procedures.
 Manage backups and off-site tape storage; create disaster recovery plan.
Lead the research and implementation of new technologies for improved availability and cost reduction (e.g., server virtualization, data replication, SAN expansion).
 Troubleshoot network and server issues and file incident reports.
 Handle end-user support issues that are escalated from the help desk.
 Install and maintain server applications and databases, including MS SQL Server.
 Responsible for information security, including Foundation policies: Propose, draft, and enforce network and server security policies.
 Devise standard operating procedures for all systems and services (e.g. OS patching procedure; template for documenting work performed and incident reporting; rotating on-call schedules).
 Provide leadership and guidance to team members; supervise team members and outside consultants for quality of work performed.

The preferred candidate will have most of the following skills and experience.

Skills:
• In-depth Windows and network diagnostics, performance and troubleshooting
• Resourceful self-starter, capable of prioritizing simultaneous projects and tasks.
• Strong scripting, technical, and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and supportive attitude.
• Able to explain complex technical information to individuals with a wide variety of backgrounds.
• In-depth knowledge of IT standards, concepts, best practices, and procedures
• Fast and effective troubleshooting of system and network problems.
• Ability to mentor other team member and to act as lead technical resource on a team.

Required Experience:
• 7+ years of experience managing groups of Windows servers in a production environment.
• 4+ years of experience managing Cisco networks in a production environment.
• BS in Computer Science or related field, or commensurate experience.
• Experience as a technical team lead, or extensive experience directing the work of others and managing projects.
• HP Proliant/Netserver servers; Cisco Routers, Switches, PIX firewalls, and Concentrators; SAN storage.
• Windows 2003/2000/XP OS; Active Directory 2003; Exchange 2003; MS SQL Server; IIS.
• RAID; SMTP; SQL; DNS; WINS; DHCP; FTP; TCP/IP; VPN; IPSec; SSL; RAS;
Network analytical tools; Ciscoworks products; WAN; LAN; TCP/IP; 802.11x Wireless; Encryption.
• IP Telephony; Blackberry Enterprise (or equivalent); Veritas BackupExec (or equivalent).

Optional Experience:
• HP OpenView; Windows Terminal server; Microsoft WSUS; Load Balancing; Microsoft Clustering; Microsoft MOM; Quantum DLT; Scripting; Tandberg V/C; QoS; Avocent DSView console management; Radvision ECS and ISDN bridge; Norton Antivirus Enterprise; Server virtualization utilizing VMWare ESX;

Desired Certifications:
• Microsoft Certifications: MCSE 2003 (minimum MCP Server 2003).
• Cisco Certifications: CCNA/CCNP, CCSP, CCVP.
• Equivalent knowledge and years of operational experience in production environment for each respective certification area.
