Heard a few times but never seen, in El Sobrante on the edge of Wildcat Canyon, it makes a sound sort of like 'ma-ma, ma-ma' or 'maw-maw, maw-maw'.
Sound is somewhat similar to a mourning dove, soft, low pitch, unlike the high pitch chirps of many birds, not 'harsh' like a bluejay or loud like a crow and definetly not an oriel.
Heard mostly in the late afternoon so probably not an owl.
Haven't been close enough to record it yet.
Anyone have an idea?
